If im a average player what mech should I use to rank up/ why do I suck at ranking up?
maybe im not a average player since im always rank 5, but iv been playing light mechs and the one I do the best in im bored of, its like a laser sniper kit fox do like 300-500 damage often. I just want to rank up and iv been using light mech because i felt by doing so i wouldnt be as much of a drag on the team if i do bad

I just dont get why im not ranking up when I seem to be doing ok-good

You will still have idiot teams in higher tiers. The difference is they're usually experienced enough that they should damn well know better. There is still a ton of frustrating behavior up higher, it's just that at higher tiers there's a much better chance that Red team will make you and your team eat ♥♥♥♥ for making mistakes.

I'll take what are drunk and stoned players for 500 Alex.

Everyone knows how to play. Not everyone's sober.

I just get any quick mech that can boat 4SRM6 and maybe a couple snubs and just shove my barrels into backsides. Or front. It doesn't matter when you smack them for 48+ alpha on a short cool down.

The game should make is so players like us can at LEAST get to tier 3 with enough work, time and effort. Even when I play what I think is the best possible I could do in a battle, I get an = in the end. :/
The game bases the ranking changes on your performance compared to the performance of your team and the enemy team.
What it boils down to is don't die too early and vomit slightly more damage than the average and you'll rank up. If you're staying close to friendlies, you will get additional score tickers from that (which again helps you rank up)
There are no rewards for moving up tiers. But if you do well (better than the rest of your team on average), you will tier up over time. If you always do 'average' relative to your team, your tier won't change.
Well, I have been trying new tactics to try and get an occasional Green-Up, but I hate what I have to do: I have been staying back, using friendlies as cover (you know, like Dr Smith does with Will Robinson); only shoot at enemies when it's safe (even when they are requesting help); going for damage on enemies rather than cooperating to actually win the battle; and wa'la, I am starting to creep up the tier again. And I hate it.
Taking good trades, shooting distracted targets, dealing more damage than receiving are all good strats. Some people used to 'call' drops with the entire purpose of having their team soak up all the incoming fire while they farmed. I don't really see that happen anymore, but it kind of naturally happens sometimes that a sniper benefits from the midrange guy and the midrange guy benefits from the brawler guy.

Helping works in some circumstances, but yes it will generally get you killed if a Nascar has developed and you are going back to help a trailing mech. If you can actually use comms, turning the Nascar around and/or forming a firing line can be pretty great.

Dealing damage makes up most of my match score most of the time. Solo-dropping, I play pretty selfish. If I play with better players in a group, I have to modify my play style to work more cooperatively. But it kind of depends on the players. People I don't recognize may or may not get a lot of cooperation from teammates.

The mech you drop in can matter too. If I'm in a VPR-B with 2xCERPPC, I'm not hanging out anywhere at all. Gonna zoom and take shots. Maybe I will focus a target with the team, but my 1.5 tons of armor aren't going to slow down long enough to be part of a firing line. A MAD-IIC-B on the other hand will be happy to join a firing line.

Long story short, it's more of a solo-experience unless you are grouped/teamed up with people you know and can develop some minimum level of trust with.

Well, let's say you wanted to get players in the current environment to trust each other more and thus foster more teamwork and cooperation.

How would you go about that?
Be part of the change you want to see. Get on mic and say hi in the ready up screen, If someone suggests you all hold a position, give it an honest try. If you are in combat with multiple enemies, call out which one you feel needs to be focused or who has open components.

I find once someone starts talking, others often join in.
