SO.... i'll just i'll copy/paste from Some other posts of mine...
First off what is your current OS and system specs?..
2nd does the game load? or does this error happen when you run the .exe for MWO?
Is it error in a steam box or windows box? as in, does Steam give you the error or is it windows that shows the error?
without knowing anything above my 1st advice for you is to one run a "steam check game integrity files" If Steam is giving you the error and not windows then go to wherever you have steam installed and delete everything inside it BUT NOT the steamapps folder NOR the steam.exe, then restart your computer and run the Steam.exe it will then redownload all those files you deleted and the game should function...
Other tips that might help or be useful...
If you have any antivirus programs running disable them, and also add MWO to your windows filewall in/outbound rules list to allow the connection (found in control panel\windows firewall\advanced settings\advanced security
Try starting MWO using the -safe or -autoconfig command line by right clicking the game from the steam library\properties\set launch options
If trying those two lines doesn't solve your issue then try this
1st off you'll need to edit the .cfg file for the game which handles the DX version (MWO only uses DX9 so using a higher verion will either run like "♥♥♥♥♥" or crash)..
I would use Wordpad for editing files of these kinds as it has end margins and are easier to read then using notepad which will stretch long lines far to the right
There are 2 of them.. You should edit them both using the same lines..
Assuming you have a single HD
You will find 1st one in C:\Users\XXX\saved games\MechWarrior Online\game.cfg
** XXX = *Whatever your windows account login in is when you 1st start windows*
The 2nd .cfg file is easy to find just right click on MWO from your library click the local files tab then browse local files and edit the file called "system.cfg" without the "s (like duh)
You will want both .cfg files to only read the following lines
r_Driver="DX9"
d3d9_TripleBuffering=0
r_txaa=0
r_msaa=0
r_postaa=0
So a Recap for anyone that might be confused by the use of too many words used..
Edit the 2 files called game.cfg and system.cfg in the 2 MechWarrior Online folders
so that both only read the following lines
r_Driver="DX9"
d3d9_TripleBuffering=0
r_txaa=0
r_msaa=0
r_postaa=0
Save changes, no restart required, launch game.. if the problem returns after another game patch then repeat these steps..
Good luck...
But then there is also the DNS issue... MWO has been having "issues" with the quick drop it hanging/dropping players...
Your DSN might be showing it as down... Also known as a DNS propagation issue (aka Outdated DNS number)... which which means you should flush it
Do that by opening up the command promt, Click the windows start orb (bottom left of screen) type in cmd and hit run, then type ipconfig /flushdsn... then try playing again..
If that didn't fix it then you'll have to assign yourself a new DNS manually
Doing that like this..
First
1 Open Control Panel from the Win Start orb
2. Open Network and Sharing Center
3. Click on Primary connection/LAN (will be to the right of the House Icon Local AreaConnection)
4. From the status box that open click on Properties
5. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then Properties
6. Click on Use the following DNS so it's no longer auomatically doing it
7. Enter into both fields these IPs 208.76.222.222, and 208.67.220.220 Hit OK
8. Finally open up the command promt and the type ipconfig /flushdsn (which drop the old number for the new ones you just entered...
Now if you want to use the Google public DNS thier numbers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Is it when you start the game? is it when/right after login (when it should load the mechbay)? Is it when entereing a game queue/waitign to find a game? Is it while the game is launching (either voring screen or load screen)? Is it in the middle of a game?
ipconfig /renew does the same thing...
And typing ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew will work better then restarting a router/modem as it releases the IP address and then demands a new from the ISP...
Restarting a router/modem doesn't always work as it will often just have same IP/DNS numbers...
*edit* BTW those simple cmd lines are basic IT knowledge/skills, and every PC gamer should/needs to know their way around the "DOS" prompt, as well as knowing to use a computer without a mouse (aka keyboard navigation)...
I like a good combo of both, they have their own little advantages. I like a hard reset, personally.
I highly doubt that a "A network error occured. Please check your internet connection." would be caused from a power spike, any avg joe would have the router/modem protected behind a surge protector which would prevent such a thing from happening..
and That error is most often caused from either their Firewall blocking the connection, from a DNS propagation issue, or a bad system registry entry.... But whatever the issue a /traceroute will show if you can even connect.. Which worst case is that one of the routers in your server hop list to the MWO server is down/timing out..

People having trouble logging in and seeing an error code - at this point it looks like MWO is fine but TWC is having major outages
"
Well if it's the ISP then there isn't much you can do other then 1. demand a reduce monthly rate for the service or non-pay for the time without the service.. and 2. From the CMD type ping mwomercs.com and see if you get a ping back.. if not then Try resetting your Winsock and see if you can connect to MWO...
From the cmd prompt window type in "netsh winsock reset" make sure your cmd function has admin powers though... it might fix your issue then... because if you can access other things online (you have internet) but not MWO then it can be worked around...

pdont expect me to explain the deeper workings of electronics and microprocessors and software and their working together and the possible reason from that here in this thread... but you can trust me that often enough some electronic device (computer, smartphone, .. basically everything that has electronic components and runs software) can act up in ways that are not solved by simply pressing a rest button or use a software reset feature or even do a power on/power off sequence without a significant break between the two presses. The reason is that internal power levels do not instantly drop to zero when you switch something off, the power has to discharge. as long as the internal power level stays above a vertain value some malfunctions/hickups can keep themeselves alife .. that is why you often get told on the phone to e.g. unplug or switch off your DSL modem and then wait 30 seconds (some techs let you wait longer to be on the safe side) ... and it solves the issue often enough to give it a try early on ...
