remember when faction warfare was relevant and fun? it was back then. 12 Gauss snipers on the defending side, aimbotters among them going for headshots and getting them.
Hackers were never common in the first place.
Accusations of cheating aren't uncommon though, since the matchmaker can put together players whose performances are aparty by roughly 50% of the playerbase (and the lower end is quite poor in their comprehension of basic gameplay mechanics... or even aiming for that matter).
To an inexperienced players something might seem almost magical until the trick is explained - I've been on the receiving end of that when I asked my opponent if he had Seismic Sensor too (since he was clearly able to anticipate my moves)... and the answer was no, he stayed close enough to listen to where my footsteps are going.
hacker/cheater software for MWO still around
Thanks to the Metrics released by World of Tanks and such we know that IIRC less than 1% of all gamers cheat (i think it was something like 0,15%). With an average playercount throughout the day of 400 players that means MWO has maybe 4 cheaters on at any given time, if that much.
The chance for you to be matchmade against one, (if you are matchmade with one it doesn't really effect you), is rather small.
And even if you run cheats you can't really do much with them. Thanks to the rescaling of the hitboxes its incredibly difficult to hit the head hitbox. A minute change in angle and you will miss the hitbox. You can test this yourself when you try to hit the head hitbox in the training area from any sort of distance. If you are not perfectly head on you are likely going to miss the head hitbox.
Since hits and hit points are handled by the server there isn't much in terms of invunerability...
What remains are wallhacks that let you know where the enemy is... and you can just get seismic sensor for that and don't even need to hack.
And if people suspect you of cheating they will report you via the ingame function and probably send the Match ID to support... so you are likely gonna be banned quite quickly, as soon as they start investigating you.
Cheating in MWO isn't worth it.
