Favorite madcat 2?
Love the mech from previous games and wanted to get for this one, but its super expensive so I want to get a good variant the first time. Any recommendations? Right now im favoring a missel/laser hybrid unless the ultra ac20 variant is very good. Last time I played ballistics were kinda bad.

Probably the best build is for the B variant with double UAC10 and double UAC5.

Personally though I like ballistics. MRM, SRM then ballistics are my preferred weapon types. So my opinion may vary from yours.

I've got two Madcat 2s, the first one here is my favoured though. Also, before I get the comments about it, the LBX 10 is to counter being disarmed completely by RNG

And this is my second one.

The first one is the only one I've had any real success in though(have had some really great games in it, multiple with 1000+ damage), the laser one just tends to get eaten by ballistics.

I love the Deathstrike, but it's a MC mech...

Missiles on the madcat mkII may look cool, but they make your Sidetorso hitboxes very big and easy to hit. The best builds for MCIIs don't use them. In descending order:
MCII-B
(MCII-DS, hero, can't be bought for CBills)
MCII-1
MCII-2 (will have the highest mobility of all MCIIs after next week's patch)

MCII-1[mech.nav-alpha.com]
4xC-LPL. Very simple build, albeit a bit vanilla and boring. Very good heat dissipation allows for manageable alpha if needed, otherwise, set 2 overlapping fire groups of 3 LPLs, then a chainfire group. Runs very cool. You can typically score 600+ damage while asleep and reach into 800+ to 1000+ on a good match. This is the least complicated assault I've ever played. It's like being an oversized heavy, but you have a massive heat dissipation advantage. This is a no nonsense money maker build for me.

The LPL can be directly swapped with C-ERPPCs. I've had success with that build, but it is hotter, and ghost heat alphas are not feasible. This is similar to the "meta" Grim Mech build, but with a bigger engine instead of more JJ.

MCII-2[mech.nav-alpha.com] This is actually one of the biggest splats in the game on the clan side. 88 damage alpha. 2xC-LB 20-X and 4xC-SRM 6. This is pretty much identical to the HGN-IIC splat build. You can switch to Artemis SRM-6 if you take half a ton off the legs and remove some heat sinks. This thing will unexist damaged mechs at close range. Medium mechs are basically popcorn.

The MCII-B isn't as good for big splat because it only has 2 missile slots, but it can run the "meta" dakka build. And I guess it has better hitbox because the 2 missile slots are CT.

I went with the b variant. Is there any particular reason to swap out the ultra ac20's for 10's or lbx? I love running my jager with 2 ac20's but I havent used the ultra version yet in this game. The regular versions are enough to rip the parts from lights in 1 shot or tear up any heavies in a few bursts so a burst version sounds very strong.

I swapped because of ammo concerns, and range.

Range, jam chance, cool down, the UAC20 shoots multiple projectiles at once that carry the 20 damage between them.

The B works wonderfully with 4xAC5 2xPPC- while it may only have 40 points plus splash of alpha strike, it's good to 700m or for PPC sniping, and 40 pinpoint at 700 is for me better than a UAC 60 build without pinpoint. The 5s also have great ammo capacity and don't generate much heat, so you can pretty much just keep tapping away with them.
