If you need jump jets and like high mounted ballistic hardpoints, shadow hawk can be a good option. Its main drawback is cockpit, vision angle is limited which can be annoying if you use free look often.
Other options are Wolverine and Bushwacker (Bushwackers lack jump jets, but are crazy powerful and durable with engines other than XL).
Right now, it is decent, depending on the variant, the 5M is a strong UAC mech, the Grey Death is strong with a Rapid Fire AC/10, the LBX10 3xSRM4 build for the 2H is still my favorite. (though people still do Pitch Fork 2xAC/5s, and Trident AC/2s) Most people like the 2K because of the Energy Hardpoints.
Overall it is a solid mech, that can fit into brawl, or support depending of the variant. Though it has been overshadowed recently with the Bushwacker and the Assassin in the IS line up.
The Shadowhawk, Bushwhacker, Griffin, Kintaro, and Wolverine are all 55 Tons. They all have their strengths with the Shadowhawk benefitting from its high ballistic mounts and jets.
The strongest of the group would probably be the Bushwhacker as it has armor quirks, good hitboxes and its torso weapons are cockpit level. The Griffin-2N is one you might want to consider if you enjoy missiles as it has high mounts and can carry ECM.

(also 5 lrm 5 trolololo tracer-fire build use to drive people nuts)
Hell yes! Bit of a learning curve tho. You're a billboard with legs until you get the twisting down. Named my treb hero El Guappo. Was the first hero mech I ever bought.
The Shadow Hawk is a solid workhorse. It's not flashy, but it can output good damage with a decent amount of tankiness and speed. Once upon a time, it was THE meta Mech for the Medium chassis.
I prefer the classic AC/20. It's oh-so-satisfying!
but the dual X10s have such BIG CRITS. HUGE TRACTS OF LAND LADDIE!!!!
But basically the shadow hawk is just a solid and fairly mobile medium with nice hitboxes and JJ's. Not a meta mech, but no slouch. A good all around mech
a lot of em make decent long range support, their narrow view angle makes em suited for it, brawling can be a little daunting since you dont have a wide field of view, you could have someone tearing into your left side and not know until its torn off. good awareness is a good thing in this mech.
the hero is kinda bleh, i havnt found a build i like for it, and i've tried many suggestions but i've decided it was a bad buy. the 2H, 2D2, and the 2K are probably my fav choices.
