Cannot start client, with portal or on Steam.
Hey there peoples, I installed Mech from the website, but when i try to launch the game nothing happens. Been wrestling with this for a coulple of weeks then discovered that Mech can launch from Steam too. So I downloaded the whole Steam installation again. But I am getting the same prob, Nothing happens, I can see MWOClient.exe in the process-list on Win-7, but it is just totally dead. Last night i tried it again and it ran properly, i played for 3hrs and even re-started it to make sure it was good, Then this morning, back to same problem again, MWOClient.exe is dead in the water. Has anybody ever seen this before? I am an old hand at Mechwarrior I used to play Mechwarrior-3 back in the late 90's (I think) so was really ready to rumble this game. Tnaks for any help... Glyphy.

If all you see is a black screen for minutes on end, it means your computer is not really supported. Had that for a long time on the computer I'm currently using untill an update a long while ago.

No sorry i didn't make myself clear enough, there is no black screen, there is nothing at all. When i try to start the game the mouse-cursor turns to hourglass for about 5sec, then that is it, nothing more happens. Then when i look in the Task-Manager Process-List there is just MWOClient.exe sitting in the list doing nothing but using about 6% CPU. There is no other activity at all.
Intell i7 6850K on Asus X99 Chipset.
32Gb DDR4.
NVidia GTX-1080.
Thanks heaps for any help, I am stumped.

RIght click on the *.exe for MWO... change it to run in Windows compatibility mode for Win xp (or Win7 if you are using the crap-py Win10 OS...

Make sure you force close/end any MWO processes that are running in the background, then try running it...

Also for steam you can try to launch it using the ~safe starting option from right clicking MWO from your steam library.. and see if it will launch using that starting command line..

Thanks Maj_Cyric for the tips but still no difference on this end, still end up with "MWOClient.exe" in the Process-List doing nothing. I have also tried manually starting both the 32 and 64-bit versions in various ways with the same result. I know from experience when (if) the problem is found it is gonna end up being some stupid little thing...
Thanks for your time. I will keep hassling with it, but i have to go to work for a few hrs so maybe when I come back witrh a fresh attack on it something will happen.
Cheers...

add it to your allow list on your firewall inbound/outbound rules.. And then try starting with admin privilege

Yeah I have tried that, even stopping all securrity on this machine, still no good. I am gonna be busy for the next day or 2 with work so won't have much of a chance to keep hacking away at it until Sat or Sun. Thanks for tryin to help, i appreciate it. Gotta work it out soon, I can't wait to play this again it's a hoot :)
Cheers all...

I am guessing that the lack of other ppl having seen this problem would indicate that it is a fault affecting just this particular machine. But most of the components I use are pretty much mainstream hardware, nothing really exotic, rare or particularly exensive. So that point makes it even more baffling. Tonight I will transfer the whole install directory to another HDD and try running Mech from there, see what happens. If it runs then I will let it live there, as long as it runs, the load-time is secondary at this point. Anyway, goodnight everyone, happy meching :)

i have the exact same problems but not every time, 2 days ago i had the problem too, then yesterday in the evening the game worked normally, now i have the same problem again. Does this maybe have to do with the MWO servers? (i.e. are they closed at certain times of the day/week) im using the steam client running on a 64bit system with win7

looked into the process explorer, game seems too be using only one cpu core but its using nearly 100% of that one core. I'm using an Intel I5 4570 Quadcore processor

Yeah ElSchlonzo, I have been havin this prob since installation nearly 2 weeks ago, then, out of the blue for no apparent reason on Thursday night it worked, and kept working ffor 3hrs, i only got to run around a coulple of practice-maps but it was great to play again after all these years. Then on Friday I am back to broken again. It's got me stumped at this point.
To JC, I sent in my DXDiag but havn't heard anything back as yet. But even the results of that do not sshow anything broken or out of place.
Guess i'll just keep tryin... Catch ya'll later.

Probably same as this:

The game starts in DirectX 9 mode by default. Your OS doesn't include the required runtimes, however. You can either edit the config file to start the game in DX11 or install the runtimes for a long term solution.
