Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's not an issue with the mechs. It's an issue with how you're playing them.
Yeah, no, it's not. Hero mechs are relatively accessible even to F2P players, and there's no in-game advantage you can purchase with real money.
In my experience, complaints that MWO is P2W actually come from players who refused to learn how to play the game.

Something to consider: while you may "just be getting started", your first 25 matches give you extra C-Bills you can use to purchase and outfit nearly any mech in the game. Mad Cat MK II MCII-B is a top tier mech you can go for then and there - I highly recommend grabbing one, as in lower tiers it's pretty broken if you can aim your shots well enough.
That right there is your answer.
Also, as mentioned above, your assertion that the game is p2w is highly inaccurate, and F2P is fine, and I say this as someone who went this route for a year to start with (until the MW5 pre-order bonus kicked in). Buy a good mech with cbills from your cadet bonus, skill it up, and after 50 matches, you can be as good as the best players in the game.
Also, git gud and yes, actually git gud, because they have the same junk you do and they're probably using it better. No shame, just don't blame your lack of familiarity on what are currently benign mechanics as far as P2W goes.
In fact, you could dump as much money as you wanted on this game and still get smacked. I have seen some terrible whales in my time. You have to learn the basics, positioning is vital. A good knowledge of maps is also essential.
Remember when PGI developed mech AI for MWO and all mwo got was the Escort gamemode?
The entire MWM5 experience could have and should have been correctly nested inside the MWO game.
Somebody, please message me the next time they're running an event that rewards mech bays.
You are better off doing just the normal events on the weekends. Just check the website every weekend... they offer usually around 300-500mc. The cost of a Mechbay is 300mc (and if you hold onto the MC and wait for a 50% off deal on mechbays it only costs 150mc)... which means technically every event will, in all technicality, give you a mechbay.
Not to mention that the current Stuffersack thingy that is going on, contains a chance for 50mc per sack openend.. and these lootbag events usually net you 1000 and more mc. All you gotta do is get the minimum score to get a bag and then go to the website to redeem it.
Yeah, that's already been explained. I used to play a little, but never knew about the events until recently. I don't usually check a game's website to find stuff to do. I look for that sort of thing in-game.
The very first pop up screen informs you about ongoing events among other things... and the event tab is also accessible from the game,
Hmm. I'll have to keep an eye out for that next time I get on.
