I highly doubt you get banned for using a code that says happy holidays basically....

My guess, something reddit. If its announcements that you just cant find anywhere even on the official site, its there for some reason.

It is from PGI newsletter email, which is sent to your MWO login email, if you're subscribed to the news and announcements. So, it is basically a free several days of premium from PGI to every MWO player, hence as official and safe as it can be.

It's PGI's yearly gift to the player base.. I think they have done it every year.. (maybe missed the first because i didn't start playing till april of the first year so i missed the holiday)
