for the love of god, i cant get voip to work *solved*
I've use three different mic's so far. Nada.
I hear myself just fine outside of the game.
Messed around with all the in-game recording settings. Nada.
Tried rebinding the PTT key. Nada.
Turned the mic volume up in windows and in game. Nada.
Disabled the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device." Nada.

WTF

*solution

turns out it had something to do with some microphone privacy settings in windows. there's a toggle for "allow apps to access your microphone" that was turned off. turning it on got my mic working again.

thanks all!

out of curiosity what you set your mic default format under the advanced tab to? i have mine set to 1 channel, 16bit 44100hz. i've found that trying to take this too high results in voip not accepting it sometimes.

i also have both let apps take exclusive control and give exclusive mode apps priority enabled.

i dont use mic but i found out that to be able to hear others people mics i needed to go the ingame options and manually select the devices over there, maybe you need to do the same thing... worth a try

Could it be as simple as you needing to click the check box in the in game options? (see the little check box at the top of the second window)

Outside of that i have no clue what the issue could be, i don't use a mic to often so not sure what could conflict with it.

If that is not it i would Send your DXDiag over to technical@mwomercs.com

I could have been more specific when I said I messed around with all the in-game settings, but yeah, all of these I've already tried.

Hmmm... I'll give that a whirl. Will report back.

Turned on those two check boxes, and turned down the sound quality. Nada.

hmm... tryin to think of other things that could get in the way. gonna run through a checklist in ths post, see if theres anything you might not have done.

Set device as default in Recording settings.

ensure windows is reacting to the audio input by tapping it while looking at the device screen.

game set to use default audio devices (incase there is such a setting, can vary game to game.)

if its not working in games, test it in other medium that can make use of a microphone (i usually use something simple like audacity i use it for other stuff but audio testing and level adjustment it helps.) other voip services like discord or Teamspeak work for this using their sound level test in options.

try a different port, i've had instances where i've forgotten to hook up the forward mic port on my case so i end up sticking it in the rear. (yes that was intentional)

thats all i got for now. if anything else comes to mind while i'm gaming i'll add it.

I actually ran into the same issue earlier.... I just had to restart the client

Set device as default in Recording settings.

-checked, it's default, and nada

ensure windows is reacting to the audio input by tapping it while looking at the device screen.

-in the properties tab where you can "listen" to the mic, I do hear myself through the headset when speaking into the mic, so it definitely works. I haven't tried it in another program though - I dont even think I have anything else that would need a mic.

game set to use default audio devices (incase there is such a setting, can vary game to game.)

-hmm, i've been putting this setting to my headset specifically, rather than just leaving it default. But at this point I've run out of options, so I might as well try it.

if its not working in games, test it in other medium that can make use of a microphone (i usually use something simple like audacity i use it for other stuff but audio testing and level adjustment it helps.) other voip services like discord or Teamspeak work for this using their sound level test in options.

-same as above, it definitely works outside of mwo

try a different port, i've had instances where i've forgotten to hook up the forward mic port on my case so i end up sticking it in the rear. (yes that was intentional)

-I've tried doing that with both an analog mic (plugging it into the front and back mic ports, and yeah, making sure that those ports were the default recording inputs), as well as using a usb mic, plugging it into both front and back usb ports. Nada.

thats all i got for now. if anything else comes to mind while i'm gaming i'll add it.

-thanks, I appreciate it : ]

I've restarted my client perhaps 7 or 8 times today just trying different settings, and I can vouch that it has not worked.
