Solaris City Map is so bad it should be taken out
The city made the game look like a 90's game quality wise....
The rain is not affected by wind...their fall straight into the ground.
The city looks dead. Empty of vehicles and people....
No destructible environment/building/structure....

It's so bad

Who cares what it looks like? Nobody ever played MWO for the graphics. The map design is great for brawling. Same with mining collective.

a) haven't gotten to play, meh
b) can be excused, and at any rate, why care?
c) Now, why the ♥♥♥♥ would people be stomping around in a city being overrun by battlemechs? And further, why would PGI tank computer performance by rendering things at that level of detail? (it will happen with how PGI does things)
d) Now, the last bit I can agree with, old complaint I have with how the game operates, but I doubt that'll ever be fixed with this game. And really, this is a universal issue.
It looks incredibly bad.

The detail level of it is worse than every other map by far.
They took everything out of the map to make the performance oaky-ish.

It looks like a flightsimulator city up close and reminds me a lot of duke nukem for the playstation 1.

It also turns LRMs into something completely pointless on the entire map, which is bad gamedesign in my book.

I mean it's fun to zoop around the buildings as a light mech and brawling is great, but I couldnt consider it a work of quality if I tried.

i agree on the rain sentiment.

but the map layout and models are probably the best they've put out in awhile.

solaris city makes rivier city look like a dump with ONE path to follow.

So how is the FPS kill on the map?

I really like the new map so far, it has the vibes of a starcraft 2 city and it's great for trading and outsmarting people. Haven't had issues performance-wise except some stuttering at the beginning, but some people do apparently.

not terrible on my 980ti.

it happens mostly as you approach the city then it goes away while your in there. its honestly not as bad as they were making it out to be. might be for even lower end cards but hey, thems lower end cards.

OP is a major troll. Sloaris City is hands down the best map in teh entire game. That's all I want to play now. It is awesome for brawling.

Wider heavies and assaults have all sorts of places on the map to get stuck/trapped in. If your mech doesn't have jump-jets it sux bad. All kinds of little curbs and risers that a mech can't walk over. It's also chock-full of choke points leaving no choice but to attack single-file. That's not even mentioning the dated graphics and low FPS compared to other maps. It's great if you're a light-mech pilot I suppose, but it's just frustrating for heavier mechs and assaults.

I actually had the opposite experience. Light mechs sometimes have nowhere to go except in a straight line toward/away from the enemy, while large mechs can focus their firepower down narrow corridors. You can get trapped in bad locations, but you can't get NASCARed to death. The only other map that offers this sort of gameplay is River City, but no one actually fights in the city itself there, with 99% of matches taking place in the water around the citadel

Iv only played on it like three times so far but been a blast each time, even with two of them being on a rifleman and someone literally booshed me off the overpass I was trying to stay on lol. Its definatly a map for jump jets though, my MAD-5M was a riot hopping from roof top to roof top. Hopped across a few buildings to change streets and droped down behind a enemy atlas and roughneck forcing them to choose who got to shoot them in the back :p

Also seismic sensors are pretty much a must here especially if you cant jump.

yes, there are shoke points, but you can also send a small group AROUND one of the large buildings and attack from two fronts.

didnt have any issues in my king crab, the king of wide mechs.

In the beginning the graphics were better, but potato computer owners complained so inverse kinematics and other graphical optimizations went away.

The only issue I have with it is that it's possible to fall through some of the ceilings and get stuck inside a building. It's happened to me twice and I've seen it happen to another mech too.
Xilo The Odd May 23, 2018 @ 5:25pm
heh it kinda dawned on me, playing this map as a light mech, is kinda like pac man. get surrounded and your done xP. BWEEEEEOOOOOOOOOO BWOP BWOP
