Think There is a Battletech Cameo in Ready Player One Trailer?
Part of me hoped that Battletech would be featured in the upcoming Ready Player One movie, I happened to play a lot of MWO at the time I saw the first trailer. Later, when the 'Come with Me' trailer was released, I started examining the clan-like reverse leg mechs around 1:43.

The video is too fuzzy to make out many details (thank you 1080p youtube compression), and I'm not even sure that the two mechs are the same (the weapon on the left mech does not match any that I know). Does any of the classic chassis designs match these? The right one looks a bit like an older Mad Dog to me, but I'm not sure.

Whatever it is. i don't think its Battletech. Why do i think that? At 1:46 you see the claw hand of the robot (left hand) ignite in what looks to be blue plasma.

And besides, i don't think i ever seen a mech that looks like that. And the mech at 1:43 on the right has some strange claw with plasma inside it. If it is supposed to be Battletech it certainly isn't recognizable as such to me.

That's why I noted that I don't think the two mechs are the same. The left arm one on the right mech looks like some older double barrel Mad Dogs.

I've seen it it looks like a mech but very generic.. Nova or Stormcrow shape etc..
The mech on the right kind of looks like a Timber Wolf from the back (note shoulders). It's not a claw, in further frames it looks like three thin gun barrels (ACs?). No plasma in that that I can see.

No, and personally, I don't want BT to have a side wink on some mecha movie. Its own move, or meh. And really, if there was a huge resemblence, I'd think one of the various involved companies would rev up their lawyers...

Ready Player One isn't a mecha movie. Part of it takes place in a virtual reality environment, which features a lot of popculture references - some of which are obvious and some of which you'll only notice if you're paying attention or scrolling the video frame by frame.

Yeah, there's a lot of anime references in the movie too and some might even be mecha designs which Battletech used back in the day, who knows. But I'm sure it'll be just an easter egg somewhere if it even happens, flashing on the screen for less than a second.
The left side mech has been identified... not BT, it's from Exosquad: http://exo-squad.wikia.com/wiki/PO-024_Field_Repair_E-frame

Now, the right side? Still remains to be seen.

I assume you mean this trailer?

There's some Mechs, to be sure, but I didn't see anything that looked MWO specific other than that Urby looking thing.

Ah, thanks for posting!

I'm not sure...doesn't look like a BattleMech to me, tbh. It looks more like one of those bots off of Matrix 3.

Yes that too.

Finally got around to seeing this movie, so I thought I'd mention that the mech in question does look very much like a Stormcrow. The arm and leg configuration is correct. The design appears to use one of the handless configurations. When viewed from the front early on, you can see missile racks over the cockpit.

Also, the credits include a 'courtesy of' for Topps, which is the company that holds the core Battletech IP, so if anything Battletech appeared in movies, it would have to be licensed from Topps. I don't recall there being any other obvious Topps properties in the movie, though there could have been something somewhere.

I've seen speculation that it's an Exosquad Field Repair E-Frame. Playmates isn't credited, though Universal, who did the animated show is. There does appear to be a Field Repair E-Frame in Aech's garage, but the coloring (yellow and blue with hazard stripes), size, and shape is pretty distinct from the Mech that appears in the battle at the end. The Stormcrow in the end battle isn't yellow, is a bit more hunched, and is significantly larger.

Cool, I'm gonna have to rewatch that now.
