What MWO needs IMO is more sim like options such as moving arms, melee, crouching, proning etc.
So far they've indicated they're planning to develop the existing game further, making this rather unlikely.
There's one thing on your list that is already in the game: arm movement. Switch the arm lock button to a toggle in the options and set the option to start with arms unlocked.
All we have seen so far is that they are using the same models in MW5 as they do in MWO... so why would they superceede MWO? They can just link to MWO via MW5...
And given the features announced for MWO, such as the ability to walk your hangar... did you see the MW5 trailer were he walks the hangar? Yeah? Well... guess what...
"What?"
Are you implying that they are converting MWO directly into MW5? ... Cool! (Right?)
Yes... based on everything we know and saw thus far, i do believe that MW5 will be the singleplayer version of MWO. Any graphic and engine updates will make its away over to MWO, as they probably will use the same engine... and they will not create a competitor for MWO with a multiplayer mode.
And they know the community would skin them alive if they released MWO2 after we spend all that money on MWO.
Its smarter for them to work on MW5 as singleplayer only game. Link to MWO as multiplayer portion.
That will also give MW5 longevity. Given that they already have all they need for the Clan invasion, they can just release the Clan invasion at a later date. Have MWO introduce further weapons and mechs... that eventually will make an appearance in story DLC for MW5.
MWO runs on an old version of Cry Engine and MW5 runs on Unreal Engine 4.
Because they are stuck with the old version of Cry Engine in MWO there is actually a lot of limitations they have, especially in regards to map size and number of animations.
With the new engine in MW5 they will have a chance to put everything they want into the game without making sacrifices for the sake of performance, thats why I think eventually MW5 or an offshoot of it will supercede MWO.
They have gimbles and actuators for the arms but you can not move your arm lower / higher into a better position to fire from.
Perfect example of this is the Dragon; in reality you could just raise your arm higher to fire over obsticles, however in game the arms drag along the ground resulting in shots constantly hitting terrain and cover.
Doesn't mean they can't just port them models and maps over. You'd effectively have MWO2, but not.
If they would have updated their models for MW5... maybe make the Raven look like a Raven for example, but they didn't. Which means they are using the old models, updated and implemented into the new engine. And if the mech models are compatible, then so are the maps.
I cannot imagine that PGI can sell people on restarting in another Mechwarrior Online. Not after they spend 80 bucks or more per mech pack. I know for certain that i wouldn't move to Mechwarrior Online 2, solely based on all the money i spend on MWO1.
And they should know the same.
It's a long wanted feature... maybe it is in MW5, but I doubt it.
Flipping Arms (Mechs like the Jaegermech can rotate their Arms to shoot directly behind them) would be also nice.
But the Sim Aspect isn't only what.
Take for example the effects or critical hits to leg and arm actuators or gyro and engine.
There are no effects for critical hits.
Heat effects for aiming are also missing.
To be honest, i doubt that PGI will add a multiplayer part to MW5.
It's more work, just adding multiplayer doesn't work.
No, the most PGI plans to do is update/change out the engine, but that is a long ways off.
MW5 will not have a multiplayer version, according to the latest from PGI.
Maps and models are two different things. Trust me; there is no way to directly port a map from Cry Engine 1 to Unreal 4. You could port over models as you say but it would be just as easy to start from scratch.
And in terms of maps we could be seing MW5 maps well over 2x the size of the biggest maps possible in MWO with much more graphic detail and interactivity.
Anyone can import a model into an engine but the diffuculties arise in how much fidelity the model can have in terms of it's scripting, animations, rigging etc etc.
With Unreal 4 in MW5 they may have the same mechs in appearence. But they will have much more detail when it comes to moving parts, destructibility, moving limbs, animations for things like crouching or jumping and even things such as interactive cockpit screens that are useable and actually show usefull info.
Also Unreal 4 is a modern engine with a optimised workflow compared to cry engine 1, it is much nicer to work with and more time efficient.
In a nutshell MW5 will be better in every way than MWO which uses a very old version of Cry engine. It would make sense to me they would develop future online games from the superior platform of MW5.
I am not saying they will make MWO2 but you may find sometime after MW5's release they will either move the multiplayer focus to that game or do a total rebuld of MWO using the engine and assets from MW5.
Oh you mean like coding a single player version with all the guns and stuff...
And we could be seeing them using the same random map generation they plan to use for the Single Player portion to generate maps for MWO.
The point being... there is nothing to gain for them to alienate their current customer base by attempting to get them to rebuy hundreds of bucks worth of mech packs. It will not happen.. and anything they need for MWO in the new engine they already need anyway for the singleplayer.
There is absolutely no point in an MWO2. Its just bad business for them.
(I am not trying to sell Unreal lol I promise I am not a shill)
