How it works is if you lose 3 engine slots you instantly die... So losing a ST means you lost only 2 of the 3 slots if you have a Clan XL or IS LightXL.. So if you have either a Clan XL or an IS LightXL you still live but suffer a loss in your top speed... An IS standard XL has 3 slots per ST..

Nice in the past I avoided IS mechs due to death after a ST was lost.

Gonna be expensive but makes my GHR and BLR deadly.

it's actually only about 25% more expensive than a same rated STD engine, so it's nice if you're on a budget but want that little bit extra space.

But its still having to buy a whole new engine.

first off, its not a XL in any capacity. its a Light Engine. an LE. a Fusion engine.

but yeah everything else said is true, you'll lose mobility if a side torso is lost, and die if both side torso are lost. its not lighter than a XL engine but an LE is a good step up for a lot of mechs that ran a standard engine.

that said, the only limitations for LE is you cannot run Heavy Gauss or LBX 20 with one, your slot count will be too great for those side torso. but, you could still run a UAC/20 with a LE. giving a lot of assaults a big, and painful weapon to be hit by, as well as a bit more mobility from a higher rank engine.

It's new life for many IS mechs. Bots like the Awesome who get a side torso peeled off easily can shave tons with an LFE and mount even more firepower safely.

It was doable with XL, but with LFE you simply have to love this baby.

you need to have case installed if you run the new LightFusionEngine becuase it will dmg other components on a torso destruction (which is why Clan Mechs come CASE standard).

Wrong.. Case blows damage out the backside of the mech.. that part is still destroyed and rendered useless as well as everything in that part of the mech.. Case prevents damage from that area from transferring in toward the CT.. It won't stop an engine crit kill... 3 engine slots destroyed will kill you no matter how you add it up...

That's not how that works. CASE stops ammo explosions from spreading, but if a side torso is destroyed with no ammo in it, CASE will do nothing.
