Real Companies, platforms and licences
So I enjoy playing, but the companies, platforms, etc being slight variations on real products was a little annoying.

So here's the (work in progress) text files for you guys https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6D0wb_TVffWUFJrTlh5Z2FYcVk&usp=sharing

Just go to (Game installation folder)\MadGamesTycoon_Data\Text\EN and replace your files with these.

There are a couple of platforms I'm unsure of, SuperX, Chinabox... any ideas?

As you can see I've just started on Licenses today, so it'll be updated tonight when I've had a chance to go through more of them.

Cant just name them after real companies, could be legal issue involved so alternating the names saves the Devs trouble and worrying about that

If you install the game it's always the fake comapnies, etc. This is just a mod.

Very cool! Thanks for putting this together. Been thinking of doing the same myself. :)

Just updated the companies and licenses (the properties you licence in the game). Licenses is a bigger job than I thought, almost 15% through now.
It's slow going as I cross reference to IMDB based on how I think the change was intended, sometimes drawing a blank and thinking laterally. If I still draw a blank I see what is close and if it's appropriate.

More interesting is the film and TV references that have been changed from a known property but are still real titles such as The Godfather to The Godmother (a 2011 film).

This is great stuff! One adjustment. You changed one of the Publishers to Eidos, but I think it's Enix; both from the logo and the fact that they're a big RPG publisher in game.

Oops, thanks for that. Corrected it.

Commadore should be Commodore. And technically its "id Software", lowercase first name.

Thanks for your work! Found a few things you might want to add:

Chinabox -> OBox
SuperX -> SuperGrafx
http://steamcommunity.com/app/341000/discussions/0/494632338490591002/#c494632338493067281

NPC Companies:
Zir-Tech -> Sir-Tech (you named it Ubisoft)
Droica Games -> Troika Games ( you named it Paradox Interactive)
Romedie -> Remedy (you named it ENIX)
Quantic Dreams -> Quantic Dream (without S)
Northwood Studios -> Westwood Studios

Publisher:
You forgot to rename Minisoft to Microsoft

I also noticed, that the NPC company names (developer names) are not updated in my existing savegames. Everything else works fine. Have to start a new game to get them to show up.

Thank you guys,

I've updated them all. Can't believe I spelt commodore wrong, my first machine was the Vic-20 so I've seen that name 1000's of times.

For some reason when I copy the files into the game folder I'm not getting the correct result. I keep getting names like <firma> has developed the game SuperHot, or whatever. Also, no consoles, developers, or companies have names at all.

I've just done a new save and ran it for 40 years to go through all companies in-game and can't reproduce it.

Have you started a new game?
Also when you downloaded did you keep the same format or did it convert? If NPCCompanies is bigger than 291 bytes then it's not correct. Google occasionally decides it's going to convert a download, so I'm going to upload to my own server shortly.

I seriously wish people would stop making this ridiculous (and untrue) argument.

It's illegal for the developer to do it.

It's NOT illegal for the player to make it. And even distribute it to other players.

THAT is why you can look at major games (look at any major game that includes mods) and see a vareity of different copyrighted user created mods that have been used for years including Star Wars mods with music, and a host of any other copyrighted material.

Stop spreading this untruth, please.

Bingo, Inpredictable. The developer profits from the game, and as such can't used trademarked/licensed names. As long as mods are independent and free they can safely use those trademarked/licensed names/properties.
