MGT = Much fun; very complex and good to relax; You can play easy, normal, hard or legendary
SI = Realistic; not as much fun as mgt and and maybe a bit complicated for beginners; more difficult as mgt
GDT = Much fun; very good balancing and design; great mod support; too easy
GGM = Buggy; not much fun at the beginning, later it's more fun; very hard; a bit more complex than gdt
But Game Tycoon 2 is good, too. It's very realistic (more than the other games) and very complex, but it's hard for beginners. It's in Early Access, too.
Can you actually play GT2 now?
I bought it and returned it because you couldn't even build and release a game. I was kind of shocked they let it into Early Access at the point I bought it. It was all concept, NO game play.
First, GGM is awful. The developer abandoned it and won't be back. It has a ton of bugs, and someone from the community was in contact with the developer, and he won't even let the game be fixed by the community, and isn't planning on doing it. He tried to sell the game to the guy that contacted him for some high price.
For GDT, there are a ton of mods. It's a good game. It comes down to preference. It's much more like Game Dev Story (almost a ripoff, actually) but more in depth.
I barely played SI but it was pretty complex and not very interesting to me. It's not one of those games you jump into and enjoy. Plan on spending a lot of time trying to figure it out.
This game has issues, but if you haven't played it, I would say it's worth it.
And I think you mean MGT>....not <.....
:)
It depends on what you prefer.
If you want a game to relax: MGT > GDT > SI > GGM
If you want a tech-game: SI > GGM > MGT > GDT
GameDevTycoon was the game that started it all, i played it into the ground, but it has some fatal flaws that become very apparent and kill the gameplay once you notice them.
MadGamesTycoon is the best of the genre by far, it improves on GDT's formula in everyway while adding a hint of theme hospital-esque gameplay.
Software Inc's only similarity to the above games is that its a tycoon game, and you can make games (though they are not the primary focus at all).
Game Tycoon 1.5 and 2 are absolute garbage, buggy doesn't describe it, i could save my game in 1.5, but could not load the same save....and the developer does not care at all, i would avoid it.
Totally worth every penny I spent.
Game dev tycoon
Like others said it is the game that started it all. It's fun and making games is intuitive and I like that you cant put everything into a game and makes it a little complex un getting a good team. Great mods but pretty basic. No office building or real employee interactions. Fantastic mod support and multiplayer now.
Mad games tycoon. Pretty much ro me a better version of game dev tycoon. Fun easy to get into and has a lot of options to customize your games the way you want them to be. Very game focused with some employee and office buidling. Has improved an amazing amount and is now a huge game. No mod support yet.
Software inc.
Currently addicted to this game. Just bought it a week ago. Much harder to get into but also ver different. It is definantlu a business tycoon. You can make games but they are like a after thought really. Definatly requires more people and takes time to make anything. You make audio tools, websites, browsers, operating systems, servers etc. Dir For games you make a enhine but it can rewuire audio tools 2d or 3d editors. All of which you can make or use someone elses. It has a lot more building freedom and can probably rival the sims in how buildings are made. Still in alpha so not much furniture. Has a little mod support. But definantly the more complex one. It's literally a software tycoon game.
GDT is fairly basic, but a lot of fun. If you like the genre you owe it to yourself to at least give it a shot. My expectations for the sequel are quite high, but that won't be availably any time soon.
Software Inc. is a different type of game and I haven't spent much time with it yet since it was barely functional when I got it...I need to go back to it soon.
MGT is my favorite of them so far. The improvements have been rather consistent, enough so that I kept re-starting my game whenever a new version would come out. I'm a bit burned out by now, but it's still my preference within the sub-genre.
