Questions about Console Development
I just decided to start it up. I have it priced relatively cheap, and it has the most recent available technology, but I can't seem to get it to take up much of the market. Any tips about how to make your console the most used/played console out there?

Thanks!

Well first off I wouldn't worry about it too much until your past the last generation of console, I think it's gen 5 with tripple AAA games available but I'm not quite sure I remember. SImply put if you work really hard at making your console have a really high market share, you might hit 10-20% just before it becomes obsolte, aka losing all 5 points of the star.

The main thing however is that you make quite a bit of money off console sales, and not selling dev kits or high market share returns on games you make for the system. If you put the automatic price option on it will stay a decent chunk above the most recent price of your system and you'll earn a pretty good amount of money while your market share goes up some.

From there you just have to make sure at least one of the consoles you build for is your own and reap the benefits. To maxamize your MS gain you really need to not only build up your own console with good games, but limit or deny your competion any games. First step is to stop building for other consoles if you can help it. If you have to pick one do the various systems that come and go early on, and avoid the PC and the Muc since they stay.

Once you have billions to waste it's also useful to buy out all the other develpment companies and force them to make games just for your system as well. Only real problem is by the time your system has any kind of real market share it's either about to be replaced or it's so late in the game you have no real need for money.

Thanks for the tips. I"m in year 2011, and my "second gen" console isn't getting much market share at all -- only. 43%. Not sure why, as I have it priced reasonably and my games are doing extremely, extremely well. I have about 8000 Mil at the moment -- how do I start buying out other development companies, as you say? I might try that but I can't sort out how I start doing it.

Thanks!

If you click on that up ward pointing check mark that shows your financial history and such. Click the developer's option to bring up a list of all the other companies. From there you select the buy 25% stock option for any company that you want. Once you get 100% you can click on the managment button and change the options, the important one is the 'develope for your system only' option.
