Heavy Weapon Deluxe

Heavy Weapon Deluxe

How to run on windows 10
To launch the game:

  1. Download the ddraw zip file[github.com] from the DDrawCompat project on github[github.com] - I used the current-at-this-time experimental version[1]. The other versions may work.
  2. Extract ddraw.dll to your game folder
  3. go to file properties for Heavy Weapon Deluxe.exe, and check the following boxes in the compatibility tab:
    • Reduced Color Mode -> 16-bit color
    • Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution
    • Disable fullscreen optimizations
  4. Not necessary for launching via steam, however if you want to run the .exe file directly, copy steam.dll to this folder as well. You can generally find it at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.dll".
[1] According to issue 41[github.com], the github timestamp on the experimental version is incorrect. Thus, the file is more recent than it shows, but may or may not be the same experimental version that I used.

An alternative project that works dgVoodoo2[dege.freeweb.hu], so if you've already got that for other games, feel free to use it (similar solution, just copy the files from the MS folder and the .conf file to your game folder, then run). If you're looking to run other games that implement multiple resolutions and such, dgVoodoo actually looks better with the various settings and features of the virtual gpu it provides, but has no real advantage with HWD.

I did this on Windows 8.1 because the game was running at 30 FPS instead of 60, and it worked. Thanks.

I can't run it, donno which part I just missed.
It's entirely possible the ddraw project has changed, or that windows has changed. Post again if you still haven't figured it out and I'll take a look.

Hey man thanks for the help but game won't run because "unable to load steam.dll"? any ideas? Thank you!!

Alright I cannot edit my comment for some reason. I fixed the above issue by placing steam.dll in the folder but game will still not run. Any more ideas?
No idea. Try launching it from steam instead.

Maybe the Developer should fix the game... oh wait, they are owned by EA... well thats that then.

Well. Neither DDrawCompat nor DGVoodoo worked. Now what?

Windows 10 64bit
DDrawCompat v0.5.4 is installed.
The Compatibility tab setting is one thing only: - "Run this program in compatibility mode" -> 'XP Service Pack 2'.
And now it starts once every three or four times.
There may be a smarter way to do this, though,
It is better than not starting at all.

And in-game options,
Switch to windowed view and it will no longer fail to start.
it's already fixed
