If I were to play this game, I'd use a dance pad. :dealwithit:

Where this is a answer to my topic?
I'd buy the game mainly for the built-in controller support + Leaderboards based on those input methods (RB Drums, Keyboard, or Dance Pad).

As far as I know, no other game does this.

Those are pretty hard questions to ask. I'll try my best to answer your questions based on own opinions. Hopefully they'll cover everything.

Pulsen comparison to Osu! from your list of 9:
  1. Pulsen costs money. Personally, I see this as a plus. I almost always prefer paid games to free ones.
  2. Pulsen's got a few game modes in development; although, in terms of what's available to players, it has 4-panel dance-style gameplay. I think it does this really well.
  3. Custom music made for the game.
  4. I don't know enough about Osu!'s multiplayer to make an informed comparison.
  5. Got an editor for Pulsen as well, it's just not public right now.
  6. I personally go through every single chart in the game and say exactly what goes in the game. Based on what I've heard so far, I make sure everything's really fun and unified.
  7. You can make your own tournaments when the game's out. I'd love to attend! :)
  8. Plenty of noteskins in Pulsen handcrafted for the game.
  9. Tons of new updates always happening. The Early Access release is just the beginning. Still got two gamemodes to put in and I've gotta make replays work now with the new system I've designed for them.
Based on the list, I see strong reasons why you'd like Pulsen. If you don't like it, you can always use the Steam refund system.

I took a look at the FAQ for Osu! (http://osu.ppy.sh/wiki/FAQ), and I see they have a Taiko mode. That's awesome! I loved playing that game when I was in Japan, but it's hard to find in the US.

Looks like they have something called "osu!mania" which includes a 4-column mode. Never knew this mode existed. I don't know enough about this mode to make an informed comparison. Skimmed through a bunch of YouTube vids, but I couldn't find any explanation of it.

How does the multiplayer work? Is it local or online only? What about score saving?

In osu! you have the leaderboards of each beatmap (top 50, soon 250), the leaderboards are worldwide but if you are Supporter you can see friend and country leaderboards. In the game you have mods like Hard rock, hidden, Flash light and Double time to put the beatmap harder and easy, half time and No fail to put the beatmap easier.

Ranking system in solo

In osu! you have a ranking system called PP (Performance points) you obtain pp after finnishing a beatmap (you can´t get multi pp per beatmap) and your pp is accumulate if I have done 50 beatmaps I will have 500pp per exemple. the amount of pp that you receive per beatmap are influenced by the beatmap diff., the used mods (Hr, dt...) and your final mark in the beatmap, D,C,B,A,S,SS.
The players with more pp are in the top of the ranking. You can see your ranking in the game beatmap selection menu or in your profile in the website. http://i.gyazo.com/8d230d6fcdb2b1cb106cdd362153d9c2.jpg
In this image you can see the beatmap selection menu. Where you can see a beatmap selected, the leaderboards of this beatmap, beatmap info in the top (like name, bpm, diff stars, time...), at bottom you can see my level, amount of pp, my overall ranking, mode selection, mods,Random beatmap and options. This is my osu! profile https://osu.ppy.sh/u/3239828.
Every mode like standart, taiko... have separate pp, level and leaderboards.

About multiplayer

In multiplayer menu http://i.gyazo.com/8f4a49b1a8aff4dc4c4149be5a338e97.png you can join a game, or create a new one (with password or not).
In multiplayer room http://i.gyazo.com/fd3e9999fd386fbbd260504a612a1395.png normal player can select the mods that are going to use (Hr, Dt, easy...) and talk in the chat with the others players in the room. The host can select a beatmap, and kick players.
Victory: The winner of the match in the multiplayer is the player with the bigger score.
During multiplayer you can win pp and reach the top 50 leaderboards too.

About social

If you press F8 (open just chat) or F9 (open chat and social panel) in any menu you can use the social zone of the game. http://i.gyazo.com/cf4b103931a956757f41eb8156517285.png You can filter the panel to appear your friends, your country online players or all online players. Clicking in any player you can : See the player profile or start private start, add friend-remove friend and the best of all SPECTATE the other player in real time^-^.

I hope this can help you improving your game with new ideas. : )
As an Osu! player myself, and was a stepmania player back at time, I don't see any link between Osu! and Pulsen.

Pulsen looks more like a paid Stepmania. Osu! is pretty different. In both cases, they are music games, that's the only thing they have in common. And Pulsen seems to be good, I'm looking forward the early access.
I think osu!mania's 4K or 5k style is the only thing that "somewhat" resembles Pulsen (and other StepMania/dance games), but even that is kind of a stretch. Both games are music games though.
I have to echo what others have stated. They cant truly be compared beyond being rhythm games. Pulsen is a dance game with four panel input, just like DDR. Osu! is a touch and drag game with an entire screen of location-based single input. I truly think you are thinking about this the wrong way. Two completely separate games. Also, I am also not familiar with the osu!mania mode, ive only done the original osu.

But while you bring up good points, they are, once again, not quite comparable. One thing to remember is Osu! is a very community-driven game with players making what they wish, however they wish. Pulsen is an upcoming commercial release with only a dev team who actually go through the effort to get permission to use songs and (I assume) pay those involved.

The problem with osu! is that I'm unable to find anything that isn't anime music.
osu!mania be a keyboard breaker compared to this XD Take AiAe's SHD for example
because osu has a weeaboo trash community, combo based scoring, and terrible mechanics

You could always compare FFR, At least they moved from combo scoring to raw, it has replays and leaderboards. And every chart on it has been past judges.

Sawtaytoes, I don't want to put down the abilities of what I assume are mostly your friends charts. At least thats the vibes I'm getting, small close-nit team here. But how much experience do you have judging files?

You list on the store page you believe these to be unique in someway. Is it because of a couple of gimmick charts? Maybe compared to DDR and ITG, but how much of the community run stuff have you seen? Like the D.O.W.N.S. events (Dancing Over the Weekend to New Stepcharts):

For example: M1dy deluxe, Pac-man (Changes from pac-man to a real chart halfway through), Overload 2.1. There are tons more, most not on youtube.

Or WinDEUs charts?

Printer Jam, Sick Wubs. V.L.S.I. The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well. (Not even a finished chart)...

Keeping in mind, those are also all designed with pad in mind. There are tons of others, I know you guys already know of the Family Farce charts from the trailer for your game.

I can understand the appeal of a paid audience in a more social game like an MMO. But in this genre you need as many people as you can get, to step charts, to compete with for scores, its already a fairly small group compared to most games, theres no benefit to a paywall here.
I have to agree with you on that
Why I support Pulsen, (except for some little things, which would prevent a Linux release for example), is because they want to create a high quality game in overall (which would be my dream as well, but I know I am no good for something like this, so I can only support it). Making both pad and kb maps with leaderboards etc. People generally work more and better on something if they have a motivation to do that, and money is a great motivator. There are only a few quality pad maps and even less of them use legal music. You pay for the whole package and their work. And for osu! most maps in fact are illegal. #konami-dmca-takedown I always wondered why there are no quality rythm game for PC, but this kind of attitude kind of explains it to me. Also mind Pulsen is in Early Access state, I think you achieve great stuff with the DLC system of steam and the SM running on base, together with motivated mappers and the feedback of the players. Especially here in Germany where there are nearly no arcades, the only way to play a dancepad game is to go somewhere else, like Spain or Italy, as DDR is now dead (at least for home-releases).

Oh god, a taiko mode would be awesome, but please not now. Regarding the editor, it would be great if I could use my old SM assets with it. Which would make it themable like osu!.

What assets do you use in the editor?
