dance pad support
seeing as this is a DDR/stepmania style game, how wide of dance pad support can someone expect on launch? seeing as the pads from "dancepadmania" are anywhere from 40$ - 90$, and the ones from "precisiondancepads" are over 300$, was just wondering how many have been tested. and if the 4 panel style is the only one that is supported.

(i do not have a pad myself, just wondering)

Both of those pads are programmed into the game :). It's also been tested with RedOctane Ignitions and a slew of others; even ones on a fixed axis (will be in a later build).

Does the "fixed axis" note happen to apply to PSX-to-USB adapters used on PSX dance pads?

More specifically, there's a known issue with such adapters (that have no dance pad code) that basically make the pad unusable (I forget the specifics, but I think you can't hit two arrows at once due to some axis thing).

On another note, I'm using a PS2 Konami control board and with my custom pad, I have it wired to the actual buttons (O, X, Start, Select) instead of the arrows because of this problem. I can remap the keys without issue on Pulsen.

It's a Windows-only fix that creates an option that will map the x- and y-axis to buttons.

I can't be credited w/ the fix; someone else made it and emailed me about it. Since it was made in a newer version of the StepMania engine, I went ahead and pulled it into build/2.0 which uses that newer engine.
The idea of playing multiplayer with a friend of yours using 2 dance pads just sounds amazing. :P I never knew you could use dance pads with PC. Glad you can though

Does the dance mat included in DanceDanceRevolution ps3 work?

If it doesn't work I'll add support. If you can tell me what it shows up as in Windows and the buttons the arrows map to, I can put it in before launch.

It also works with the event driver for Linux, but yes, I did that fix for exactly PS2 to USB. I myself didn't found out that either, but I added that feature to the SM code. If you should own such an adapter and the fix doesn't work, contact me, currently the Windows version of the fix works a little different from the Linux version. EDIT: (Maybe the description I added was a little misleading, the driver not working is called js driver as it uses the joydev system, doesn't mean it doesn't support the more modern event driver, which should be used on Linux)
EDIT 2: When will build 2.0 be released for testing? Can't wait to try it out on my Dance mats (Although I've been also developing a way to hook up DInput to emulate the keypresses, I'd prefer using the builtin solution)

I haven't setup any build scripts for build/2.0, and I'm waiting on one last fix from another dev before setting it up for testing.

Some of the issues are that crashes when starting in Win8.1 unless you run in compatibility mode, pausing wasn't working (fixed this), selecting music screen is very low framerate and choppy when v-sync is on.

Hi, i found my PS2 DDR dance pads and got a USB adapter to use them. I'm using Windows 10 and unfortunately the driver for my dance pad mapped the arrows as POV buttons, so I can't do jumps with opposite arrows (up-down and left-right). I did some research and it seems that all the post I found are also 6 or 5 years old and there's no solution to this :( Is it too much to ask for a driver to map the arrows as buttons? (honest question).

Not with my dance pad (PlayStation 2 DDR), if I force the controller configuration any input on the dance pad is registered as the right trigger.

I can't remember if I had a POV dance mat fix or not. The problem is that the pad is registering either an X or Y value, they're not buttons.

If you change some wires around on the board, you could probably fix it that way.

For instance, pressing Up and X at the same time is fine right? If so, try to jumper some buttons together or change where the wires are soldered.

Thank you very much for your reply, I can try changing some wires, I just don't really know how to do it without trashing my dance pad. Do you know where I can find some tutorial or scheme to give it a try?

I finally decided to modify my dance pad, it was not a clean solution but it did work. It has two separated flat wires (don't know the correct name) group with 4 buttons each. Buttons and d-pad are mixed on each group (2 buttons and 2 d-pad directions), so i decided to cut the plastic that groups them resulting in 4 groups of 2 buttons each. I just used some tape to attach the flat wires to the controller board as it was originally the way they were connected. It works perfectly!
