Tallowmere for Android
Tallowmere - Android Version - Free DLC
Tallowmere for Android has landed! If you purchase Tallowmere on Steam, you'll be able to download the Android version as a free DLC.

Device Requirements
Tallowmere for Android requires decent hardware to run well. As such, I've forced the Android version to require Android 4.4 and OpenGL ES 2.0, which means only Android devices from 2013 or newer should be able to run the game; older devices will be out of luck.

According to Wikipedia[en.wikipedia.org], recommended device versions that support OpenGL ES 3.0 looks something like this:

  • Nexus 7 (2013)
  • Nexus 4
  • Nexus 5
  • Nexus 10
  • HTC Butterfly S
  • HTC One/One Max
  • LG G2
  • LG G Pad 8.3
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 (Snapdragon version)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)
  • Sony Xperia Z/ZL
  • Sony Xperia Z1
  • Sony Xperia Z Ultra
  • Sony Xperia Tablet Z

Older devices that only support OpenGL ES 2.0 might not run Tallowmere for Android smoothly, but you're welcome to try.

According to my Google Play Store stats, popular devices that run this successfully are:
  • Google Nexus 5
  • Google Nexus 7
  • Google Nexus 9
  • Google Nexus 10
  • HTC One (M8)
  • LGE LG G3
  • Motorola DROID Turbo
  • NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Sony Xperia Z3
  • Symphony Teleca OnePlus One

Installation
The Tallowmere Android Version DLC is delivered to you as an Android APK installer, which will be downloaded to your Tallowmere installation directory in your Steam folder.

To open the folder: Open your Steam client > Click LIBRARY > Right-click Tallowmere > Properties > LOCAL FILES tab > BROWSE LOCAL FILES...

There will be an "Android" folder that contains the APK file.

You will need to copy the APK file from your computer to your Android device.
Have a Flash/SD card? Copy to that and insert it into your Android device.
Running Windows or Mac OS X and have a USB cable? Click here.[support.google.com]
Running Linux and have Wi-fi? Click here.[android.stackexchange.com]

Once the APK file is on your Android device, you need to open the APK to install Tallowmere; I recommend using either APK Installer[play.google.com] or ASTRO File Manager[play.google.com].

Once installed, launch and enjoy!

Input Support
Touch the screen to control your hero, use a keyboard, or use a controller.

Supported input types:
  • Touchscreen: Yes
  • Keyboard: Yes (version 343.4 and newer)
  • Controller: Yes (see below for supported models)

Supported Controllers
Tallowmere for Android uses the InControl plugin for controller support just like the desktop version.

Supported controllers[www.gallantgames.com] include:

If you have a controller that doesn't seem to be working, please visit the Tallowmere Android Controller Support page[www.tallowmere.com], download the Mobile Controller Debugger APK, fill out the list, and post the info here in this thread (or email chris@tallowmere.com if you'd prefer).

Other Notes
Differences from the desktop version:
  • Local achievement system so you can strive to earn all the things, just like the Steam version.

  • No local co-op nor dev console at this time. As of v320, the combat log is available if you use a controller.

  • Loading Tallowmere for Android can take ~30 seconds when the game first starts up; my Unity debugger/profiler says it's "preloading assets" during this phase, is a known issue with Unity and Android, so not much I can do about it! But runs great once the loading is done.

Faster loading! As of version 332, the Android slow-loading issue has been fixed thanks to Unity. Loading is now 7x faster than before. (on my Nexus 9 tablet, initial loading now takes 4 seconds instead of 30 seconds)

If the framerate is feeling a bit stuttery, trying reducing the amount of decals under Pause Menu > Options > Game Options > Decals & Body Parts.

I have a Moto X android phone which does not have SD card support. It does come with 50 GB of cloud storage though. How then could I get this on my phone if I own it on Steam?

burdfishdemon, try checking the steps on this page: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2840804?hl=en

Or try searching Google for moto x file transfer

A couple of page suggestions to try:

http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-83007/

Otherwise, I imagine uploading the APK to a Dropbox or Google Drive account would work, and then you should be able to download from that.

I just want you to know that I waited for this to go off sale so I could buy it at full price, solely because you included the Android version. I really appreciate it!

Is the converse true: If I buy the Android version ($2.99) do I also get a license to play the Steam version ($4.99, $3.99 on sale)?

No, you get the Andoid as bonus, when you buy the PC version.

Are you a dev?

If you don't accept answers, except from a dev alone and no one else, you should maybe write an email. Here, we have a community, where multiple users from all over the globe can come together and help each other. :trainbowbarf:

Akuma is correct - buying Tallowmere on the Google Play Store does not come with a Steam key.

If you buy Tallowmere on Steam, you can get Tallowmere for Android as a free DLC and manually copy the APK installer from Tallowmere's Steam directory to your Android device to play, though you'd need to do this every time an update is released if you wanted the latest version on your Android device.

Some of the appeal with the Google Play Store version is that the game will automatically update via Google Play without having to manually copy any files over.

What's to stop me from purchasing the game via Google Play, saving $2 (%40 of the price) then playing the game on an Android vm or even ChromeOS natively[lifehacker.com]?

To me it really feels like you're taking advantange of Steam users by licensing the exact same game for 40% more.

I'm not sure if it's my phone, but when I try to run the game, it shows me the title screen, then the loading bar of sorts, then the game starts, but the problem is all I get is a pink screen. I can seemingly interact with the screen, but I can see nothing but the pink. Sorry, I'm not too sure what to do. ><

Hi Azekreis, which Android device are you using? I've set the Tallowmere Android version to require Android 4.4 at a minimum, and requires OpenGL ES 3.0. Does your device meet these requirements?

Did a quick search; pink screen indeed means there's an issue with the textures/shaders. My first guess would assume that the ETC2 texture format isn't supported on your device? I could be wrong though.

In any case, please try restarting your Android device to see if it helps.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. If not, I guess I'll have to play it when I get a different phone. :)
