Power blackout
If the generator overheats and blackouts when I'm not at central control is there a way to get the tram running? Or am I stuck?

I thnk if it goes out and you arent in one of the areas attached to central you have no way to get back. Try to make sure you dont power too close to your max so you have a buffer for the decay.

I had an hour left to get back but as soon as I used the elevator it dropped to a couple of seconds.

Really? humm sounds like a bug if that happened.

I've never had this happen before. Does that basically mean game over? Or is there a way to fix it and get back to Central?

I'm curious.

if the generator over heats it warns player that he needs to get back. Basically West needs to get to the tram and get on it before the total black out happens.

I thought I had about 2 hours? When I got back to the elevator I'm pretty sure it was about 1 remaining. However when it loaded the 0 level a second later the blackout occured.

umm do you have autosave before taking the elevator?

I think it saved when I took the elevator. I'm on level 3 but the overheat timer is just a few moments before the blackout.

Edit:
It seems my constant reloading and using the elevator has caused the game to save at the moment of the blackout.

Maybe it should be changed so that the generator cools down and restarts after a period time?

Of course you could still very easily end up in a no-win situation due to a lack of O2/heat/supplies. But at least you might have a chance.

I was thinking about that, but if it rebooted how you would you decide what systems came back online? I figure central control would be a given, but if you had a lot of stuff powered up, would it all come back online, or only the location you're at? If only central and the location you were at were powered at the time it failed, does it really give you another chance? Seems like it would just fail again.

I'd assume it would return to the previous power state when restarted. Since overheating is probability based it isn't likely to overheat as soon as it restarts. That should give you enough time to reach Central and rectify the problem.

Treat it like a computer, which it basically is: when a computer has a BSoD error, it reboots. On startup, it only brings back the essentials. Some computers even go into Safe Mode as a precaution.

I think it'd be nice to have this function, and when the gennie restarts, Central and the sector you're in remain powered but nothing else. Another minor penalty is that your infection control in other sectors will be terminated. If they ever put in the 'defeat the infection' condition, that would be REALLY bad for you.

It wouldn't make sense for the generator to return to the state that caused the overheat, anyways.

How does the generator know which sector you're in? A simple sci-fi excuse is that it scans for ♥♥♥♥-sapien lifeforms in the sectors.

this is interesting topic. what we thought about this initially was.. haha..

dont laugh..

we were thinking of west has to manually labour himself to return to the base.. by riding one of those.. mine cart stuff.. and has to constantly hit the button to propel himself.. lol.. like the ones in the old west movie.. haha..

...Hahahaha! That would be a hilarious Easter egg for unfortunate players that didn't plan ahead. I'd actually like to see that some day. :X
