Now it works. Hope this helps anyone in the future.
From where did you download these drivers? :)
No, but I can borrow one and try it out. The drivers seem to be wonky in general for this!
I recommend letting Windows do it, but I'm sure this is fine: https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
EDIT: Ah, I see from your other post you're looking for Xbox One drivers.
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/connect-xbox-one-controller-to-pc
Even if you're running Win 8 or 10, get the Windows 7 64 drivers.
I don't think it's a problem on the dev's end. Here are the facts after some more testing:
1. I think this is a Windows 8.1 issue
Directly after you install the driver for your wireless 360 controller on Win 8.1, go into Devices and Printers. You will see 2 things: Xbox Wireless Receiver for Windows (under Unspecified) and an actual pic of a 360 controller along with the rest of your computer's devices. Now, turn off the controller, image of 360 controller disappears from devices (makes sense.) Turn controller back on, image doesn't reappear.
Subterrain will not work with a wireless controller if this icon representation is missing from Devices and Printers. Note: Beat Hazard will also not work. Utopia 9 will not work. Kill to Collect will not work. There are a couple others I've had problems with the past couple months but have forgotten, and I'm sure there are more that I haven't tested.
Here's the funny thing: Enter the Gungeon will work even if Win 8.1 doesn't add the controller icon to Devices and Printers. Neon Chrome will work. Halo Spartan games work, Stardew Valley also. As far as I can tell, all AAA titles WILL WORK regardless.
Fair math based on the games I've played in the 3 months: 90% of the games still work even though there's this Devices and Printers missing icon.
So you see, it's difficult to say who the problem lies with. On one hand I could say, "Hey, Win 8, why are you not recognizing my controller when I turn it on?"
Or I could say, "Hey, dev, most other games still recognize my wireless controller, apparently going solely by Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows always in Devices and Printers."
Here's what I do know for sure: I never had this problem under Windows 7.
I would need a developer to explain the game-making process when it comes to controllers, because whatever the problem is, it seems to be dependent on how the dev creates controller configs. What I mean is, what's different on how you implemented controller scheme as oppose to, say . . Dying Light?
This suggests Windows 8.1 still sees the controller without even being in a game.
Soooo . . . I'm very confused.
I have ordered wireless dongle, it will take few days to arrive for me to test it out. But I don't have windows 8.1 ... so it could be different.. and I have ordered one for xbox one controller.
It's not on devs end nor was it any of the games that didn't work.
G.Skill RIpjaws KM 780 RGB Gaming Keyboard software for my LED keyboard. Something about the software controlling the LEDs was not allowing Windows to detect jpy.cpl, however weird that might sound.
You will have to remember that one. Never heard of it before myself.
Just tried 3 times now after uninstalling keyboard software and the controller shows up in Devices and Printers every time now.
These LEDs are used in more products as well, in case anyone has future issues.
