Also the guys in AC3 are highlanders. Dunno why they're called grenadiers

i know they r called that but they r basically grenadiers becuse they can still throw them and stuff. this game missed such a big portion of hitory wthout them in it
Ville Valste Jan 4, 2015 @ 1:15pm
Not a big portion at all. Grenades weren't really effective anymore compared to other options. Sure, there is grenadiers in other nations, but they are somewhat useless. And if someone gets them, it's still pretty rare to get them throw grenades, because muskets and melee are so much better options.
i had a unit of grenadiers with france or some faction and they were in a firefight with a full 120 men unit of militia. they threw one round of grenades and the unit was down to 66 men!!!

come on, really this sounds like a legimate question. the guy doesnt need to be trolled for it. To answer your question, I post an answer from the toatal war forums.

"By the time of the Peninsular War the practice of massing companies of Grenadiers & Light Infantry was dying out as it was seen as detrimental to the owning battalion (Fortescue, page 916, History of the British Army volume IV, Book 2 XII)"

And a reinforcing argument.

"In the British Army during this period, there were no grenadier regiments. AFAIK there never were, either. The British had grenadiers and light infantry as "flank companies". They were largely composed of the same number of men as other companies, but with a specialized role. In earlier times flank companies were often formed together into grenadier or light infantry battalions, but as Prince of Essling (which is the guy who made the quote you see above) points out, this practice was being abandoned by the time of the Napoleonic Wars. Because the parent regiments still had the flank companies on their establishment, they were still responsible for the feeding, clothing, and equipping of them, even if detached. This put a great strain on the regiment as the composite grenadier/light infantry battalions could often be posted far away from their parent regiments."

So there is your answer, hope it helps.

Also want to point out that those were in fact highlanders in assassins creed...

i think after 1800 the grenadier regiments either died out or retiered and they just did not retrain any. however the more famous greandier regiments were not retired and just jused for ceremonial purposes or guard duties. i think a regiment of grenadiers guarded the royal british palace or somthing

The British army only had grenadier companies, one for each line regiment. At times these were formed into ad hoc battalions, particularly during sieges, as the men in these companies were traditionally chosen for their strength and height. However, as the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars raged on these differences with regular line companies became less pronounced: for example, the grenadier companies lost their distinctive short bearskin cap by 1802 (it was replaced with the regular stovepipe shako).

They are the Grenadier Guards, they were not originally grenadiers, they took this name after their defeat of the Old Guard at Waterloo, after which they were awarded the right to wear a bearskin cap which is very similar to that worn by the French Old Guard. The Grenadier Guards were never equipped as grenadiers.
