finding save game files?
a little help, for a middle aged fart who doesn't know his way around the innards of a computer too much? My old laptop crapped out, well, the physical LAN connection deteriorated. Got my new machine, and reinstalled Steam, and I expected my saves to be in the cloud, but I got nothing, and this was just as the French (me) were moving on Moscow and the Russian were countering my lesser armies and pushing me back a little (i.e. just getting interesting) and my economy was getting 12K /turn, and I am building Military academies and able to recruit well tarined grenadiers, and now its all lost and I have to start on the Italian campaign........

does anyone know what is the typical path for NTW save game files, so I can transfer the info on a thumb drive? I was seaching my old computer and i cant find the saved games. Also where would I install them on the new computer? I assume in the same place they are stored on the old one, but I don't really know....

any advice?

Its located here:
C:\Users\Twin 2\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon

Copy the "save_games" & the "save_games_multiplayer" to:
C:\Users\Twin 2\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon

On the new computer.
DONE!

Hi everyone. I hope some nice smarter than I person can help. I too need to locate my save files for Napoleon/Empire total war for transfer to a planned build (truth is I'm bored and want to play as my laptop has been out of action since Christmas but don't want to put the time in if I can't transfer saves later) I've tried the steps detailed above and every other way I feel safe doing but I just cannot find anything... I'm running windows 8.1 btw and everything is in my steam files...
PS why are they so hard to find? it was easier in the previous two games, everything was in notepad.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaajor necro here, but this is the first result when googling "ntw save games location" so.. it's totally justified.
You need to change the file extension type in ESF editor - after you hit "open savegame", and then choose "All files" to the left. I assume the file structure between ETW and NTW is different and that's why the saves don't show up; either way, it's an easy solution.

Oh, and also, location for 40-unit armies are at; campaign_save_game>compressed_data>campaign_env>campaign_model

So it seems I'm not the only person with this issue. I recently got a gaming pc and started having these issues for the first time. All the solutions I am finding seem to involve file pathways, but I am just not seeing them. Do I have to create the folders or is this something that is supposed to be done automatically? If I do have to create them, is it just as simple as following the paths until the listed folder isn't there, and then just making one?

Type this, exactly as written, in the address bar of Windows Explorer:
%AppData%\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon

Note the single space between words of "The Creative Assembly"; and the use of backslash (\) rather than the UNIX/web traditional use of slash (/).

Typing this in directly avoids issues with hidden file folders and the precise spelling of the user account.
