NEED HELP
For over 3 years now, Napoleon Total War has not been able to start on my pc which more than meets the requirements. I have re-installed and verified the cache multiple times.

I would like to know if any of you can opt into a Beta of the game through "properties". Apparently, that can fix the issue but I don't have the option for a Beta.

Thank you.

What seems to be the problem? As in, why the heck did you reinstall and verify the game cache? If the game has been functioning properly for three years why try to fix it?
echo1 Oct 16, 2016 @ 5:25am
I said "Napoleon Total War has not been able to start on my pc" for 3 years. When I press the game icon it simply runs for about 3 seconds and then stops.

I see. Dyslexic suppression. Well, best I've got is to check firewall, .Net Framework version and contact support.

Wtf, doesn't anyone ever search the forum. I mean how many threads has this topic been on? I am getting sick and tired of repeating myself, over and over and over and over and over again. Was it too hard to type into that box on the upper right and look for oneself, or do you want someone else to give you the answer all time....the information age and no one uses it. This is what instant gratification has done to society, people want someone else to do the legwork and just get the result.

Don't say anything, I don't care or want to hear it. Here is the friggen link to a thread that is on the same damn page as this one, no one even had to do a search, it was RIGHT THERE!!!!!

If you check, I've written half a dozen times over the past 3 years of how Napoleon doesn't work. I've been on the TW forums and gone through every conceivable method to try and make the game work. I've even signed a Steam petition to make the game work for the hundreds, yes hundreds, who have encountered the same issue as I. This is not an isolated incidence. I've more than done my research on this topic but I thought the NTW community might shed some light, any glimmer of light as to what may make it work. I saw today that someone on a forum said Beta participation made it work again, however I don't have that option. That is why I asked.
Fast Johnny Oct 16, 2016 @ 1:41pm
Whatever, so did you try that stuff?
echo1 Oct 16, 2016 @ 3:12pm
Of course, very basic advice. I've tried far more complicated methods than that.
Marc Oct 17, 2016 @ 3:06am
Hi echo 1, I have the same problem and I have tried many solutions but without success.
I am in contact for 6 months with Matthias creative assembly and they are about to find a solution.

With respect me and for many others, the problem is the combination of a PC Asus with W10.

Are you in the same situation?

Hi Mark, thank you for the reply. I have W10 and a gigabyte laptop with a GTX 980m.

Well, did you try the basic thing of shutting your AV and RTS off completely for the first time setup/startup? AV and RTS will completely block the first time setup (the first time you try to play the game after install) causing it to shut down, usually there is an error message, but not always.

Just out of curiousity, what much more complicated solutions have you tried and why did you not allude to the solutions you have tried in the first place?

First please update Windows (WIndows Update) and your graphics card drivers and sound card.

1) Your Realtek sound card driver must also be updated, why go to the following link:

- Go to: http://www.realtek.com/

- Click HD Audio Codec Driver bottom right

- Check the "I accept to The Above." and click "Next"

- Search "64bit Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1 Driver only (Executable file)". Download the latest version by clicking Rx.xx, for example, right on UK1.

- Save the file to your computer and run in order to perform the update

- Follow the instructions

- Restart your computer and restart the game

3) If all your drivers Display & sound is current and the problem persists, please try the next step that allowed many players to play Napoleon: Total War

Make sure the option to see hidden files :: is active (see below how)
XP:

Click on your icon WORK STATION / OFFICE, go to the Tools menu and click Folder Options
In the new window, go to the View tab, locate and select the radio button Show hidden files and folders.
Then click OK to apply the settings.

Vista / Win7:

Start Windows Explorer, expand the Organize menu click Folder Options and research.
In the new window, go to the View tab, locate and select the radio button Display files, folders and drives hidden.
Then click OK to apply the settings.
-Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following directory: C: \ Users \\ AppData \ Roaming \ The Creative Assembly \ Napoleon \ scripts
- Make a backup of the file "preferences.script.txt" file (copy on your eg Office)
- Edit the file "preferences.script.txt"

- Look for the following lines and change them as shown:

Current line: gfx_video_memory 0; # Gfx_video_memory, Override available video memory (bytes) #
Change it to: gfx_video_memory 536870912; # Gfx_video_memory, Override available video memory (bytes) #

- Save these changes and close the file.
- Try to restart the game.

If the problem persists, outright delete this file and restart the game. (This file shook recreated the next time the game).

4) If this does not resolve your issue, please change the graphics configuration of the game by reducing the resolution and quality to a minimum.

Restart the game

If this does not help, go back to the graphical configuration and change the resolution to 1024x768, check the "Run in Window" (window mode) and choose the shader model 2.

- Start STEAM
- Go to Library

- Click on Properties
- Go in the "LOCAL FILES"
- Click on "CHECKING THE INTEGRITY OF THE GAME CACHE"
- If Steam has found files to be updated, repeat the process until it finds nothing more

9) You can reset the settings / configuration of the game (preferences-script.txt)

For this please close napoleon Steam and then delete the "preferences-script.txt" file found in the following directory:

- Windows Vista or Windows 7:

C: \ Users \\ AppData \ Roaming \ The Creative Assembly \ Napoleon \

10) If your problem persists, please try to start your game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. To do this in the "Steam installation directory" / steamapps / common / Napoleon Total War, right-click the file napoleon.exe then go to properties and in the Compatibility tab. Choose Windows XP SP3 and select the Run as administrator check box. Commit the changes and restart your game.

If the game does not work and you wish to reactivate the service, do the same handling, click the "Enable All" button, then confirm and restart the computer.

If after that the game does not work, I do not know what to offer you more, otherwise than to recheck all previously proposed manipulations and possibly to uninstall and reinstall Steam and your game.
Have you tried to completely uninstall your antivirus software and restart the game to give it a try?
You can also try to create another Windows user account (eg games) with administrator rights and start the game via this account?

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting customer support of SEGA Europe.

Start a PC game in compatibility mode with administrator rights

If you are having problems with a game that was made for a version of Windows earlier than yours, it is advisable to start the game with a compatibility mode by following these steps:

1. Locate the .exe file of your game (If you have a desktop shortcut, right-click it and select Open File Location,
2. Right-click the .exe file of the game and select Properties,
3. Go to the General tab and make sure the boxes Read Only and Hidden are not checked.
4. On the Compatibility tab, select the compatibility mode and choose one that is compatible with the recommended configuration for your game,
5. On the Compatibility tab, select Run this program as an administrator,
6. On the Security tab, select your user and make sure that all privileges are allowed.

If this does not help, I can tell you that as before the game forums or to try the game on another computer.

Hello,

Please follow these instructions:

Exit Steam.

Using the file explorer go to the Steam installation directory (usually C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \).

Rename the "steamapps" directory "old_steamapps"

Restart Steam and re-install the game.

Once complete retest installation.

If this solves the problem, you can copy the new files for the game in the "old_steamapps" and rename it "steamapps" to restore your other games without having to download them again.

If the problem is not resolved, you can rename the folder to avoid having to re-install other games.

Hi support assembly seeks creative workaround to solve this particular problem in NTW launch with laptop Asus W10 (other brands too).

I consulted all media and forums on this issue and any proposed solution will work for now!

The problem is that the game is installed perfectly but the SCRIPT file in c / user / AppData / Roaming / the creative assembly / NTW / script remains empty and forcing the game can not start it !!!!!!
