1. Move your infantry back and your cannons forward.
2. Have your cavalry charge the enemy cannons.
3. Start the battle with your infantry safely close to buildings if the fight is in a village.
4. Your gonna lose some troops in every engagement. If yours is standing still long enough for the A.i to bombard them into retreat or wipe the unit out completely, then your playing this game all wrong and should head to YouTube for some basic lessons.
Also another thing to consider, the caliber of the cannon makes the reload longer. Ex. 6 lber gets a 10 second reload I think whilst the 8 lber gets like a 15 second reload.
Final thing to consider is the sort of shots you're firing. Ex. Quicklime out of howitzers is like a stinky gas kinda thing that demoralizes enemy units wilst shrapnel is a splitting shot like a grenade and explosive is self explanitory. For cannons, Round shot is a cannonball basically. Canister is comparable to a shotgun shell and can only be used in short ranges so I recommend you only use it when being charged by Cavalry or Infantry. At long ranges use round.
Also, remember to limber your arty. Depending what type of arty it is, it will move at different speeds such as Horse Artillery is faster than just a normal artillery piece.
I hope this helps a little.
I would like to make some remarks concerning your pieces of advice.
Firstly, 6 iber gets 15 sec reload time, therefore, 8 or 9 iber gets 20 sec reload time and so on and so forth.
Lastly, cannons actually cannot be reloaded faster than 15 seconds, the reason is in an animation of troops, so u can try out to set 1 sec reload time via pack file manager in database for 6 iber, there won't be any differences whatsoever.
Yep, hope it's helpful :)
