2) The scale of the map brings back the strategical aspect of it - movement takes longer and there is more space in-between locations, meaning it's no longer possible to walk from city to city literally in a single turn.
3) Nicely abstracted trade keeps navy relevant, even if you're not playing as the British.
4) Different european nations all have very distinctively looking units, which adds visual variety.
5) Both cavalry and artillery are vital part of the army from the very start.
6) Climate (snow/heat) can cause army-wide attriton, which becomes an important consideration as replenishment works different in Napoleon.
7) Replenishment now takes time instead of money (it's still possible to "transfer" troops from one unit to another, but it only works for the units of the same type).
2 da multiplayer
3 da modded multiplayer
thats pretty much da main thing it has goin for it
Id wait until it goes on sale. I dont think its worth the money. If youre enjoying Empire just stick with that. Napoleon is just Empire with a smaller map, fewer features and reskinned units. The graphics are slightly better i guess, but I still enjoy Empire more.
Basically, Napoleon doesnt give you anything new.... itll feel just like Empire in every respect. The only difference is there is a lot less going on. The economy is streamlined/ simplified, theres only one theater - Europe. The major differences to me are that 1- everything takes longer. The game takes place over 1805-1812 I believe.. so each turn = 2 weeks. This means it takes a lot longer for technology, construction, moving units etc. Stuff is more expensive but gives less profit...the game moves much slower, you wont get as much done per turn as you would in Empire.
2-Diplomacy is better. this is the only instance as far as I can tell where a feature was added instead of removed.. You can ask other countries to join wars when they become allies. You can also request certain countries have trade embargoes with others. Pretty cool, except trade is lame in this game. There is a handful of trade nodes on the edge of the atlantic ocean and on the N coast of Africa. Thats it.
Overall, I wasnt impressed with Napoleon TW. Honestly, it wouldve been a good Saga title but feels pretty small and underwhelming for a TW title. Its so similar to Empire in so many ways that it feels like a cash grab
I think Napoleon wouldve been a great Saga title, or even an incredible DLC for Empire - thats what it feels like it is when I play it. Feels kinda lame for them to charge full price for Napoleon imo. I bought the game with expectations of an independent TW title which is why I think I was so let down to basically get Empire again (except with less content).
The period isnt the same, it takes place 5 years after Empire ends... but all the units, technologies and buildings are the same - blackpowder units = musket line infantry, cannon, dragoons. Mounted melee cav, ships of line..... To say its "absolutely" not the same time period makes it seem like its way different, except its not. :/
Yeah, good decision honestly. Every 2 months or so it goes on sale for like 6 dollars (US).... thats when I got it. If I paid the full price I wouldve got a refund haha.
Italy and Egypt are campaigns you can play in Napoleon. Austerlitz and Waterloo were just battles, not campaigns... and those battles are also playable in the game.
You can play as Napoleon in the European campaign and invade Russia, or play as Russia and fight Napoleon.
Are you being sarcastic or something? The only thing you mentioned thats not in the game is Marengo but again- that isnt a campaign, that is one of the smallest battles Napoleon ever fought and TW games only include well known historical battles, and Napoleon wouldnt become Emperor for another 4 years or so after the battle.
IDK if you were trying to be funny, sorry if I didnt get the joke....
