The trick to games like this is to build an economy that will allow you to field more and larger armies than your opponents. Then you must be able to defeat them in battle chosing your targets strategically in order to prevent others from invading your flanks and causing you to divert forces to recapture them.
What's happening to you? Are you unable to field a sufficient army? Are you getting over extended? Are you fighing too many enemies on too many fronts? Do your conquered territories revolt and spawn massive armies? The more we know the more we can help.
Here is a walkthrough that might help you. I like this guy. He explains his philosophy for playing the game and I found it entertaing as well.

In this scenario, Kutosov's army is likely to hunt around attempting to conquer one of your German allies, often B-W or Switzerland. Your northern army, after conquering Kassel, should hang around Strasbourg and, in the evetn this happens, move in to defeat Kutozov's beat-up army and add the new state to "Greater France"/ The university in B-W is particuarly valuable in this instance.
That should give your economy lots of growth to support more aggressive campaigning against Austria and Prussia; a Technology edge from the additional Italian university; and the funds to build a navy to neutralize GB.
Note also that having established a Trade Agreement with Prussia in Turn 0 (That portion of Turn 1 prior to your very first move of any agent or unit on the Campaign Map.) any further Turn 0 negotiatiion with Prussia involving a trade of Cleves for Hanoaver can be very wide-ranging; such as having them join your war against Russia and GB.
Also profitable in Turn 0 is to peddle your technology to the allied minor states for anywhere from 350 to 500 each. This can increase your starting funds by 2,000 or so, and can be employed by all of the factions in Turn 0 as well as later. However the AI will know what price you have set for each tech in the past, to other buyerst, and will usually refuse to subsequently pay more later.
The script for Prussia (at least on higher difficulty levels) will involve them making a DOW on you shortly after you conquer any of Zagreb or Budapest as well as Vienna.
I tend to invade nations D-Day style by building up my army until you are ready to take out an entire nation in one stroke. I also allow military access to the enemy and use that to march on their capitals and once in place I'll siege every capital and basically destroy that nation. Then I'll get another nation declare war on me so I'll buy peace until I D-Day them into victory.
It's easy to win this. Just make sure you trade wit has many nations that you can. Build up your economy. Buy peace and tech. Trade tech for peace. Build up your military. The Allow access for a potential enemy so you can D-Day their capitals.
* Sell technologies to friendly nations to raise funds
* Invest in trade ships in the Mediterranean
* Send your navy to block the Strait of Gibraltar, ensuring the British stay out of the Mediterranean
* Besiege Vienna and take it last to fully eliminate the Austrians and get all their territories.
* Don't get too cocky overextending and grabbing new territories. Keep a reserve near Paris to fend off British and Batavian attacks.
* Invest in banking houses and commercial ports. The +1 wealth to all territories stacks up fast and you will have a very, very vast empire.
* Invest in 12-pounders and 6-pound horse artillery. Use them tactically to win battles.
* Batavia, Prussia, and Ottoman will declare war on you and attack you inevitably. Be prepared. Keep armies around Paris and Vienna.
* Russia is very far away. Invade it last and be careful, mindful of the winter. Once you take St. Petersburg, Sweden will try to backdoor you. Maybe better to eliminate them first.
* You don't need to invade Britain, and they won't invade you with more than half a stack, so just keep up the blockade around Gibraltar and reap the Mediterranean and focus on the eastern front.
My biggest mistakes were not being prepared for sudden invasions from Batavia, Sweden, Prussia, and Ottoman. I left Paris and Vienna undefended which made them tempting targets.
If playing on Campaign = Very Hard, then full stack invasions WILL be in the cards.
I pretty much sued for peace against most nations that declared war on me. I’d trade minor territory for peace, or trade tech or pay. Then why d build up my army and d-day the ones that had just declared war on me but I had set up a deceptive peace. It works every time. By the mid part of the game I had basically made peace and Allie’s with a great majority of the nations. I’d then have time and money to build up massive armies, permit military access then use that time to peacefully March to every capital then SIEGE THEM!
