Is the Old Guard OP for what they're worth?
Hi, I've recently started playing this game again and as I played, I quickly realized just how strong the Old Gaurd were, beating just about every other infantry unit in a fair unit-on-unit fight. this fact was set in stone when, during one battle where i was outnumbered roughly 2:1 as the french, i emerged victorious, all be it close, and when i checked my statistics, it turned out that one of my units of Old Gaurd were able to kill, I kid you not, 552 men! and they still had 60/160 men at the end! 552! But I did notice that for most of the fight, that unit was fighting for a building against a continuous stream of mid to high-tier units. That's why I'm here. Is the Old Guard extremely OP, or was it just a certain scenario in which they were able to set up a killzone for the incoming mass troops?

i playe a 2 v 1 siege battle last week and my 3 OG units got nearlry 500 kills each and made me win, i believe they were in the same situation as yours were. Inside a house given a stream of constant enemy units to mow down while the polish legion, held them back.

Furthermore, my dutch grenadiers only got 100 kills while in a line formation. So it must be the height advantage and angle that gives them the insane kills maybe?

It's not too difficult for elites to pile up kills, especially in optimum conditions.

on many maps and against most opponents france can field an extremely overpowered army start with 4 voltigers cheap 550 and good lights can also lay stakes then 4 chasseurs de cheval also pretty cheap and best shooter cav in game throw in a militia 2 or 3 old guard the rest line infantry and u have an army that is very hard to beat on many maps. i,ve had healthy line units give up without firing a shot against old guard because of ther fear ability. P.S, i myself almost never play as france i consider it to be cheesy as im looking for an interesting battle not one where i have an overpowered army compared to my opponents but thats just my opinion. There are maps and builds that can counter this french army though.

I didnt mean to offend,no apolegies required lol. i just found weird you making a 2nd thread on the same subject.

And to answer, yes they are worth it. i have seen them turn the tide of battles and almost single handedly win SP and MP battles.

Wellington once wrote a letter to Napoleon:

"You are not playing fair. Disband your overpowered Old Guards. The mere thought of your old guards scares my soldiers. Some pea on their pants while others crap. My officers had to give them diapers so they can stand in formation. Please fight with your your peasant militia or we will not have this battle at Waterloo.

kind regards,
Wellington"
