Is the old guard bad?

Hey!

I have been playing napoleon total war for some time now and I have gotten many comments that the old guard is bad. Is that true?

I guess it depends on how do you value numbers vs quality for the same cost. But still, it is the Old Guard...

On several ocasions they turned the tide of MP battles for me. the best example would be the battle where a vet old guard of mine wiped out 6 enemy line infantry and 2 cav on its own so you get the picture. they´r the freakin old guard. As Geronimo said you should probably question your sources.

Until vetted, the OG does die rather quickly (so, yes, they're squishy) as compared to line infantry. Also, the OG unit takes much longer to regenerate losses. Now, for melee stats, OG is excellent. Since melee is not a major action that I use, the OG's value IMO is lessened. Line infantry and Voltiguers are superior functionally because they fire, melee, and regenerate well.

i almost never play as france but many players like the french faction the combo of voltigers 550 can lay stakes and are descent lights 4 to six shooter cav 2 old guard and various polish legion swiss foot is gard to beat on an open map

im gonna do something that all the previous comments have failed to do, answer your question. No the old guard is not a bad unit for their size. They can counter almost every other unit and are reasonably cheap to make for what they bring. Have a nice day/night.

I dont think the old gaurd are bad, they might be bad if you use them incirrectly. This aplyes to all unites. So if you use the old gaurd right they sould be good

old guard is by far the best line unit. they have best shooting stats and are second only to seminenskys life guard. and most usefully they have ability to dampen enemy morale.

The Old Guard are extremely hard to break and, for me, sometimes last until the entire unit is killed.
