The battles are very intense and now you will need a variety of units in a battle: Line infantry for the main lines, skirmishers, light inf, and grenadiers for slowing them down and helping the line inf. Cavalry for charging enemy cavalry, infantry and artillery(previous games cavalry was more for show or chasing routing units) while artillery finally has become more accurate and has more tasks on the field than just loud noise and knocking over walls!
Seriously, if you are interested in this game, buy it already! Or at least watch it on YouTube first if you need more information on it first!
In the Grand Campaign, as Napoleon, you can try to create an empire which will endure the threats from the coalition against you - or you can play as one of the major powers fighting Napoleon. Different factions have different challenges, for example as Britain you'll probably focus initially on building your trade network and defeating your enemies at sea, while as Prussia you'd probably be more focused on land warfare. You can also try holding or liberating Iberia in the separate Peninsular War campaign, in which guerrilla deployment was introduced (some units can deploy outside your deployment zone), allowing the player to set up battlefield ambushes.
As well as the campaigns, you can try multiplayer battles and there's the option of using 'drop-in' battles in campaigns (turning a battle in your campaign into a multiplayer battle). Drop-in battles seem to be rare, I've only been able to find an opponent a few times, but they're fun when you get the chance.
As the STEAM package now includes all the DLC, including the terrific Peninsular Campaign, it is a must for anyone wishing to play a popular and appealing Napoleonic warfare game.
Do not let the age of the software fool you, it is still one of the best of the TW series which I have played. There are also plenty of free Mods available to download too to help enrich the playing experience.
Well said!
it good if you like total war and wasting 100s of hours of your life on one game
Thirded. A truly great game.
