How much RAM do you have, I am assuming your specs are just fine, but thought I would ask. Also, what GPU are you running?
I am telling you though. It is Windows that's messing it up here. Could I uninstall all Windows Updates and run it "barebones"? Do you reckon that would solve the problem and if so, should I do that?
To see what GPU you are using, go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers, Device Manager, FInd the Display Adapter, Ope the tree (little arrow for the dropdown) and see what GPU or Video Card you have. RIght Click and choose Properties, look at Drivers and see when it was last updated.
Many times games will start to crap out if one hasn't updated their GPU drivers in a while....and sometimes games will crap out with new driver releases.
I have also checked my system restore points which are avaliable to me. Unfortunately, the earliest one I can use is one dated for 23/12/16 (12/23/16) which are after the points from which these errors occur (and the creation of this discussion board if my memory serves me correctly).
Your help is much appreciated, especially being that it is Christmas Day too. I thank you for taking time out from your festivities to help me with this so I wish you (and All) a very Merry Christmas.
There are a couple of things that might make your games crash like you were saying that are Hardware related:
One would be that your GPU might be overheating and when it gets to a certain threshold, it shuts itself down. Have you recently looked in your case? Is it dusty, are the fans all working? Does the GPU smell like rotten plastic? Do you play any other graphic heavy games that crash? Some rigs have a temperature readout, temperature alarm and fan speed control in the bios. Control and monitoring of the fan speed might be all that is required. Perhaps your fan speed is set to low or the GPU is covered with dust as well as the vents to the PC causing porr ventilation. I had a very good ATI Radeon a few years back that would just shut down when it started to overheat, eventually I had to replace it. I found out it was getting too hot while playing ETW and NTW, of all games....funny how coincendental that is. Total War games use a lot of graphic card processing, even on the campaign map and my heat alarm used to go on when on the campaign map and shut down on the battle map. Look around and see how to set the bios, it should be easy enough to just type in your browser and get a simple easy way to get into the bios and check those things.
Earlier in this thread another person mentioned the RAM might not being enough, maybe it was enough, but isn't now. It might be that your RAM or a RAM stick is going bad. It operates to a certain extent, but when called upon to do the full job, it can not handle the full workload and the game needs a minimum to run, perhaps it is not meeting that minimum. There are ways to see if this is the case, which I usually have to look around to see how to do it. Memtest is a utility that is in almost every OS, look around the interweb to see if you can find a step by step easy description.
The problem might be as simple as a very dusty case or needing a new stick of RAM, which isn't very expensive. I hope your GPU is healthy.
I'll let you know how it all goes.
Ha ha ha. You glorious schmidt poster. Vive la Emperor!
Fast Johnny: No luck on any front, good sir. This is a most frustrating issue indeed.
Ever use a mod for any TW game that is on the same hard drive?

What are the possible fixes one will need to resolve this? It seems the end is almost in sight. Fingers crossed.
