Tit for Tat

I been reading guides and I know going through with Tit for Tat should fail Fat Neils vs McCoys, but whenever I throw the molotov at the McCoys' barn it just fails Tit for Tat and then I reload. I don't get it, I approached from the East each time. Is it an auto-fail if you ever are seen by the McCoys at any point after getting that quest or what? 'cos I didn't immediately do the quest after getting it. I'm just so confused.

if you talk to them there´s a dialogue option to distract them so that they get away from the zone, once you do it with all of them you burn the barn. when i first took that quest the same was happening to me, that´s how i know that this works (if only one of them "sees" you throw that molotov you fail the quest, and that´s gonna happen mostly because of the size of the McCoy´s community and for the wachtowers they have)

I did it while standing on a hill, there is a small hill next to barn, get up there and make sure you only see a corner of the barn, then just throw molotovs until it burns down....mission complete!

You have to talk to members of that community and tell them the other group is up to something. They will walk away for a bit. That is your time to start chucking molotovs
