Glowing Ore Extractor only extracts when you are no planet

Is this a feature or a bug? I was thinking about leting some extractors around to gather ore but they just work if you are on the same planet. What is the point then?

I think the same happens with furnaces. I spent a lot of time away from my base to ge there and see the furnaces still running.
