Here's how I got best weapon and armor

Always check the smugglers and armorers at space stations. That’s how I got the best ancient assault rifle: the Ravager Regalia. Insane stats: 435 damage, 10700 fire rate, 95 accuracy, 70 range. I also scored a solid ancient suit, the Embrace Initiate: 115 shield, 55 armor, 50 sprint.

Their inventory seems to be randomized each game session, so I can’t really point you to a specific smuggler or armorer. Just keep checking whenever you dock.
