IMHO, while mining is a bit of a grind, it's not as bad as some other games, Minecraft to name one and Hydroneer to name another. At least, similar to Minecraft, one is dealing with Blocks and Voxels, rather than scoops of Dirt like Hydroneer. You also have QB1, that can locate Ore for you. Dirt that you mine can be turned into Clay. I think the biggest issue, that will be at least partially resolved when the Full Release comes out, is that we're stuck with a Mining Laser T1. The T2 will probably be faster and easier.
In addition to QB1, we also have the Scanner (the Q button, once you've built it). I generally will be looking for T2 Ores. I'll have QB1 locate it, and then, after I've retrieved it, I'll use the Scanner AT THE LOCATION I found the Ore, because there's a chance that there is more Ore in a radius around it...
