Obvious stuff like that that could have been easily fixed before release. Should have been EA for a year probably.
If you plant saplings close one to another they'll grow into one big tree, just like Minecraft. And honestly, that's a good thing, farming leaves and wood is boring af
Big Tree or little tree the action is the same...So why not big tree?
More material and nothing lost in the action itself[getting wood} so its just the same plus more resource GAIN.
Whats wrong?

and dont forget those wonderful tree trunk bases.

Pretty funny, I planted 3 saplings at the starter base right after clearing the land nice and flatfor some extra wood... didn't expect them to grow into that, now I have a lifetime supply of wood lol, guessing it's proximity based.
It's actually random which type of tree grows from a sapling based on what terrain they're planted on, it's just that the mushroom biome has some big variants and the game seems to have a bias towards picking the big ones from player planted saplings.

You don't need to plant multiple of them or in proximity to each other, I had it happen both in the demo and the full game from my first sapling.

if you mine a part of a tree does it grow back?
I actually like when the mountain tree spawns. Planning how to to harvest that thing to its fullest extent is fun.

After seeing how big trees grew in the demo I only planted 1 sapling on this run and I swear a small forest sprang up of various trees.

Didn't know about the multiple saplings creating monster trees though. Good to know.

You dont need multiples, I actually think its random. I planted seeds from a small tree and I got the mountain tree and the half mountain tree just from 1 seed each.

The mountain tree actually engulfed one of my other trees that grew as a small tree, I was cutting into it and the small trees trunk was inside the large tree but with no leaves lol.

It's been 80 years and im still waiting for my saplings to grow.... put on dirt near my base thinking soil and all that. Had no issues on previous planet (both cleared of darkness if that matters)

Same! I really want to create a sort of tree museum from the different planets I visit and like the trees from, but I can't get saplings to grow ANYWHERE other than the first planet and then it is only mushroom trees because that is the soil type, but it simply doesn't seem to work anywhere else.

I actually kind of dig it. I planted a couple, got one massive tree and hollowed that out to be my gigantic mushroom base!
