Saplings all stack.
So I have 9 different stacks of dirt but one stack of saplings, so I have no idea what tree I'm planting?

As far as I know any sapling planted will grow into a random tree that is native to the planet it was planted on
saplings grow into what ever tree is for that planet... i was very sad then i planted my trees from first planet ( they grew huge af) then they grew thin and wouldnt become 1 huge tree just a mess... R.I.P. wood farm plans lol
I hadn't tested it, but I thought it was tied to the soil it is planted on. Sad to hear it's to do with the planet and random.
Oh that's bummer. I'd prefer to know which tree I'm planting.
Starting to notice this system for stacks are not a very liked function in the game, but then again having one chest dedicated to just different types of leaves ONLY..... Yeahhh

I wanted those big trees to make a base with. I went to one of those big red trees and harvested the long tree locks hanging down and got some seedlings for it. I planted those and got my big trees. So im thinking the type of tree your wanting you have to get those seedlings or saplings even tho they wont be labeled as anything diff.

But if they all stack and look the same how do you keep track of which is which if you store them until later?
Did you plant them on the same planet as you harvested them? It sounds like which you get is planet dependent. Would be cool if you could plant all the different types on one planet no matter where they were harvested, so you could basically make a botanical garden type thing. :D

yeah stacking order would be the question since they are all labeled the same. They prob never even thought of that yet.

Don't plant it too close to something you want to keep or you'll be digging it out.
I assume its the soil type/biome that control this but to early to have any conclusion
Only 25 seeds this far randomly up a slope and it for now seem to be biome/elevation and world type

I hope it's soil type dependent at least. That way you can still plant all the different types of trees at one base. I love the idea of a botanical garden :D
In the DEMO I planted three saplings close together (about 2 spaces apart) and got huge tree out of it, but in the released game I am just getting three spindly saplings to grow.
