How to Download 64 bit version of Huniepop

So, I updated to OS Catalina several months ago, and while several games in my library show a warning that they might not be able to run, Huniepop is the only game that actually won't run, due to being a 32 bit title. I know that there is a 64 bit version, but I'm not sure how to go about downloading it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game to see if that might work, but no dice. Any advice would be appreciated!

On Windows it automatically downloads the 64-bit version. Odd that it doesn't on Mac..

You could try the following...

First, completely remove the game, then follow this guide: Guide: How to download older versions of a game on Steam

Once you get to the part where you need to enter the download command, use this

download_depot 339800 339804 2886167704134107982

This should download the latest build from the HuniePop Mac (64bit) depot.

Just for others who might see this, I followed the above instructions and the 64 bit version pointed to by the depot number downloads as a 32 bit application on Mac. It OUGHT to be the right download, but for some reason it isn't. Maybe something wonky on Steam's side.

To be sure, I also downloaded the 32 bit version from SteamDB in case they somehow got switched on the backend. I figured, might explain why we get the bad version to begin with. No luck, also 32 bit.

64 bit Windows can still run 32 bit applications as can 64 bit Linux because Microsoft aren't stupid and Linux is open source. I even think 64 bit FreeBSD has support for 32 bit applications. It's 16 bit applications (and DOS applications) that 64 bit Windows can't run natively. You need WineVDM and DOSBOX for that.

Apparently, there is a way to run 32 bit applications on 64 bit FreeBSD.

I'd suggest try downloading the Windows version and run it under Proton or Wine, but I don't think Proton's available for the Mac and Wine needs 32 bit support in the OS to run 32 bit apps which Apple have deigned to remove from Mac OS.

I'm afraid you may be SOL short of running a 32 bit version of Windows in a VM (if that's possible) as I don't see HuniePot ever releasing a 64 bit version of this game.
