RFE weather plugin?
So I downloaded the RFE weather plugin for rFactor, and upon launching the RFE version of rFactor.exe it asked me for my key and email. This would be fine, but... I bought the game through Steam. Is it possible to get my key from the steam version?

Thanks.

I wouldn't be giving it away even if there was one.

If a game has a CD key associated with it, you can find it by doing the following:
- Open Steam client
- Right click on game
- Select "View CD Key" (right below "Play Game") from the drop down menu

If there is no "View CD Key" in the drop down, then there is no CD key associated with the title. FYI, no all games purchased / redeemed through Steam have CD keys associated with them.

it's basically the game but allows you to choose different weather

You have downloaded some malware instead.

It should not be asking you for key and email so don't send those anywhere.

If you get exe when downloading you can unpack it often with software like 7-zip - check for yourself then what files it has in case installer is doing something malicious.

It came as an installer, which I installed.

After so much fussing around, asking on other sites, I honestly don't think the plugin is worth it.

Thanks for your help though :)

I found an answer from the plugin developers...even though you probably won't like it. The plugin was developed before the Steam version and they stopped actively supporting the plugin in 2014.

that's actually incorrect, the games that feature 'view cdkey' are usually ones that have an interface that asks for the key (for example gfwl)

some games will store the key into registry or a game config file during installation with no interaction by the user

I had to buy the game direct form the rfactor people to get RFE working, because their code is old and hasn't been updated (and wont again) for 2+ years. So I have two installs, one for my Bockbierbude goodies and one from the developer directly for RFE which I'm running Historix, 1979GP. Oh, and a third RFE installation just for the Stock Car Evo Mod (Which has all NASCAR cars and tracks done for RFE).

I can use the plugin without problem, you need to acquire a special .exe, to put it bluntly a cracked executable of rFactor in order to run it.

Ninnuam, you must love viruses and trojans.

I'm very cautious when it comes to downloading things, that .exe is provided in some mods in order to make the plugin work in some cases, I haven´t had any problems. From what I researched when I was trying to make the plugin work it has something to do with the differences between the steam executable and the "retail" version.
