But anyway, I have another question. You've just said,"no co-op yet." So does that means there are plans for adding co-op in the future, or do you at least consider it?
Pvp is nice...IF you get someone of equal strength. That is the problem, of course.
They've removed f2p components, as well as over the top ridiculous grind?
The game is the same. Nothing has changed except ownership of it. New owners want to cash out asap. Same thing happened in Nether. New devs came in , tried pushing a cheesy dlc for cash , claimed to be working now on the title to fix it and improve it and did nothing.
The devs even state "It entirely depends on the revenue we make and if we can afford to do it." which should be all you need to know.
It's what the devs told in other threads regarding the difference. And given how I also own Shadowrun Chronicles and am familiar with Clifhanger work, I honestly have no reason not to trust them.
Worst case scenario-we can always raise an issue and see it taken care of, eventually.
I will stop as you guys will defend these actions till the end of course and its pointless to try. Just needed to be said aloud.
1) anyone who previously had the f2p game can still play. After changing the balancing and getting rid of paywall and grind economy, the game obviously needs to be sold or we could not generate revenue from it. We are giving all gamigo users who paid (even though we don't see a dime from the money paid to gamigo) a free acount for the new version. Everyone keeps their bought DLC and progression
So we are not grabbing money, we are offering people who have not plaid previously a different game experience (and we let them know beforehand what the deal is if you look at our shop page).
So: No one is being made poorer, we gave away free codes and we saved everyone's progress.
The alternative would have been seeing the game closed down and no one being able to play anymore.
I think the current way is preferable.
Here's what's going on:
There was a game called JAO that you can play "for free". Except that like any so called F2P game, it had to somehow generate revenue. The Gamigo version did this with premium currency and massive grind. The Steam Version did this by selling access to the high level missions, at the hefty pricetag of around 20 Euros.
Now the ORIGINAL DEVS of JAO acquired the rights to the game from gamigo, and tried to fix it in a way that better reflects their original intent. Publishers getting in the way of Dev visions is clearly unheard of in this business... (hur hur)
They could have just started selling the game as new right away, which, lo and behold, they DID NOT. Everyone who originally played the game, can still play it, no charges.
The re-released JAO Reloaded features a pricetag below the 10 Euro mark, for the content you previously had to pay 20 Euros for, or grind your ass off in the gamigo version if you did not plan to buy premium currency.
What did they do? They gave away keys to the game they now own away for everybody who had bought the original, and they can do with the game whatever they want now btw.
And not only that, to top it off they offered free keys to all old gamigo players, which honestly shouldn't even be the ones to start talking, since the gamigo version clearly was abandoned by the publisher long ago.
Cliffhanger probably did not even make any money with that re-release yet. They have only been open and clear about what is going on as well as giving away the game for free when they did not even have to in the first place.
Now if this assessment makes me an ignorant consumer, wow, so be it. Then my definition of ignorant (and that of the general public) clearly differs from Tincup's.
If I miraculously acquired the license rights to Windows 10, I could instantly cease all support for it, change a few bytes of code (or nothing at all) and re-release it as Windows 10 Real, charging let's say 200$ per copy. I'd be in my legal rights to do so and besides complaining consumers couldn't do jack about it.
TL;DR; Cut Cliffhanger some slack ffs. They did not at all do something unethical because nobody was in fact charged twice for the same content!
