Help with shooting

I can't for the life of me figure out shooting. In the individual mode it's too easy, i can make almost everything. The meter doesn't seem to matter. However, in a game, I can't make anything. I've only hit two three pointers in 5 hours of plays!

Is this game just inconsistent or am I doing something wrong. It is really frustrating seeing people knock down 8 three's in a game.

sometimes shooting is ping related as well. I also hear that shot releasing (or shooting at a specific area on the indicator shooting gauge) helps as well in certain spots of the court.
