how does fadeaway works?

do fades only work when you have def on you cause it seems it dont work when im open only when someone in front of me.

i have a legend card major with fade success +10 also so i assume it would at least go in once without def on me but it don't

It depends on how you shoot it (use shooting challenge to find the right peak for your jump when using fade away), and it depends on luck as well. It doesn't matter if you are open or not, fade away works regardless.
