As far as I know... there isn't any MMO games out there with similar setting/mechanics as Vega. How ever, if MMO is optional and you just want space games, then games like Stellaris or GalCiv are pretty good.

The only one that might come out this year is Imperium Galatic War. It is being restarted just a funding problem but vega more or less came from that but hopefully from what we've seen so far the devs actually talk to their player base

you cant move your ships and etc, but yea if you want a similar game that once is it. or you could try "star colony"

I'm also looking for a game like vega conflict it doesnt have to be free or an mmo. i specificly like the ship customization and the combat...the combat is really great! simple but very fun
