Does anyone know what software was used to create this game?

The engine used for these games is called ChoiceScript, and is available from Choice of Games website for free. And it does take a bit of coding, but they do have help topics and forums.

Choice of games usally publishes on tablets and phones an APKs, this as well as a couple other games are a special case as the peeps are trying to expand their market. Just google choice of games to go to the site, more info there.

Sadly I don't know Java :(. I wonder how much it would cost to build on Odesk. I should ask.

Choice appears to have an author incentive scheme in place. "Make good story games like ours and we'll publish them for a fee" - not bad when they're on Steam, Android AND Apple!

Interesting. It would depend on the cut of the revenue they're offering, but with that exposure it could be great for someone starting out.
