I don't remember from the wiiU version if there is a safe to put extra stuff at your safehouse to have a bit of stuff for a new survivor when you die but the safe house and areas you unlock with a previous survivor stay unlocked
Items are returned to you if you manage to slay the zombie—but skills are lost no matter what.
Given the way you feel about things—you should definitely steer clear of Zombi.
So you load in at beginning and have to redo all the missions you done before or do you kill your dead character for your items and then continue?
When you die trying, all the items on Zombie #1 will be truly gone forever.
They say third time's the charm!
No. Mission progress is shared between characters, but each time you die, any character progress is lost, and any items you had on you at the time (ie., inventory items not stored in the communal storage chest) are lost unless you can return to where you died and kill/loot your previous character.
The game has a story where you progress trough missions going farther and farther away from your safehouse (the only place you can save the game by sleeping). Your safehouse is connected to the sewer system and every area has a sewer entrence for fast travel... so you can always come back to your safehouse to save the game and depoist some items.
You have a box in your safehouse like in Resident Evil classics where you can put your stuff in. (space is limited).
You character has weapon status that can level up as you use particular guns, getting better at them.
The core system is to decide what to take with you on a mission.. Taking too many guns and ammo is a risk of losing everything if you die.. taking too little decrease your chances of surviving. So it's about taking the right gear but always leaving something at your safehouse in case you don't make it.
When you die, (and you can die in one hit if a zombie grabs you.. 1 bite and you gone)... you're dead forever. That person become a zombie..
You will wake up as another survivor (maybe taking place days after the preivous survivor died). You're now another person, you have another name, another job maybe even another gender. The thing is, your status are lost forever... all the improvements you got from using guns with the other survivor is gone as well as the backpack he had with all the gear you had at the time.
Your new survivor start back at the safehouse, but you keep the mission exactly where the preivous survivor left off. So you don't have to redo anything. Only that you're starting with no status and one pistol. But, if you left a good deal of gear in the box you can have what's in there. So you always should leave some backup in case you die.
Now you can either keep going on to do the mission or/and go find your previous survivor in a zombie form. The problem is, the higher the level your character was, the stronger this zombie will be. Some times can be really tricky, specially that the zombie who killed you, will be there too.. so there will be at least 2 zombies waiting for your newbie level 0 new survivor. (sounds lame if you played Left 4 Dead, but in this game every single zombie is a threat and can kill you quite easily. Life is fragile you need to be super careful. Facing 2 zombies at once is very dangerous.
I'ts quite common to be killed by your former character when trying to recover your bag... Sometimes you better stay away.
That's pretty much about it.
On the Wii U version, there was a Dark Souls online system where players could leave msg to other players.. but not only that.. if you die and take too long to go back to your zombie to get your gear back, your zombie would spawn in other's people world... so if someone make it there before you do and kill it and loot the corpse, your equips would be gone forever... and that means some guns (that you can upgrade) can never be recovered and you may never find another one in the game.
Shame Ubisoft removed this feature. It was quite awesome not only the fear of losing your stuff but also to come by a zombie with another player's name in the head so you could find some pretty valueble stuff while ruining someone's else game. lol
Small correction: There are other safehouses where you can sleep to save your game - they just don't have your locker box in them, so you won't be able to stash your gear in them.
