A question about the game's ending scene (SPOILERS)

So I heard this game has a grand total of three different endings.

1) you die before reaching the helicopter

2) you reach it, but did not grab the panacea when the alarm went off

3) you have the panacea and reach the helicopter

The last survivor I played was a fat white guy. I remember grabbing the panacea (USB thing), and survived.

I was picked up by the helicopter, but the guy's arm closeup revealed black veins.

But I saw this video on YT for "best ending". The guy does not have dark veins. Granted, it is a different character model (black guy), so is this the reason?

...where the survivor's arm is covered, so I really think this has nothing to do with the story and is rather part of the character model.

You know the first survivor you play as, the slim, bald white dude? If you play on Hardcore, you have to finish the game with that one. I'm guessing that's the "canon" character, and i don't remember seeing black veins with him:
