Buying ArmA2 Standalone is of no use to you, ArmA 2 is used as DLC.
When you have ArmA 2 + ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead you have ArmA 2 Combined Operations, this is because you run ArmA 2 OA and all the content from A2 is loaded by A2 OA as part of itself.
And that's why it's called Combined Operations, and A2OA's MP was updated to work with Steam Works, and ArmA2 Standalone didn't, which is why it doesn't have matchmaking, although the MP does work but you don't see a server list like in A2OA.
It's exactly the same, exactly and as I said before, ArmA2 Standalone is only used as DLC, it's not much use, unless you only want to play the old ArmA2 campaign and little else, but you would miss out on a lot of content, more campaigns, missions, mods, etc, etc.
Oh this just kills my OCD for some reason.
