Yessir, if you decide to buy, I hope you enjoy :)
if you look at this clip, you'll see the player cancelling from other attacks into each other (like vehicle attack into heavy or light attack). To add to that, it seems the game is mixing in bayonetta gameplay where you can dodge at the last moment to slow time down. I'm sure some crazy combos might be possible. Making long, stylish combos are my thing at least and all I'd really care about, I don't know about you though XD.
So I guess by your definition, every game can be considered. Fighting games are just fighting, fps are just shooters, sports are just sports, platforming is just jumping.
I still can't wrap my head around the "Very Positive" user reviews on Steam, it has to be all the anime fanboys because that game is shallow and repetitive like hell.
It's hard to believe PlatinumGames had any involvement at all with that snoozefest...

I decided to look into the mechanics with Bayonetta 2 on the side just as a comparison.
Turns out, it might just be bayonetta with a large emphasis on the transforming XD (since there are some specific transform attacks.) Otherwise, there's even a few similar moves.
I may be able to answer that question about the positive reviews...or at least a few of them. I'm sure the fanboys part might be a majority, but for anyone who's played Bayonetta (or if a fan of making stylish combos), there are plenty of similar mechanics that transferred over. For one, pretty much a lot of bayonetta's mobility mechanics are exactly the same (dodge cancelling -even the animation-, jump cancelling, etc) and switching between elements is very similar to switching weapons in bayonetta (resetting whatever combo you were doing into the next element/weapon). The most different thing with the game was the guard mechanic being manually activated but still mimics the perfect parry of Bayonetta 2 (excluding qte follow up korra had)
For me, I was just in it for making crazy combos, I could care less about anything else...though, the juggle mechanics were a little hard to work with at first. Creating your own combos and being stylish is where i got the fun from, but any hack n slash is as repetetive as you want it to be. You can use the same attack over and over, or, you can pull off stylish Devil May Cry combos and mix it all up. I swear, one of these days, I'll be able to do a Combo MAD for DMC4SE.
In all honesty I don't know much about Platinum Games but I think their Metal Gear Rising game was a heck of alot better than MGS4 and maybe even better than MGSV Phantom Pain (Oh yes I did!)
I do agree that the music is a bit bold, I believe I speak for everyone when I say that "You've got the touch" would have been awesome song for the trailer.
Best MG game.
Now don't get me wrong, War for Cybertron was good, but a transformers action game based on the G1 series appeals to me in more way than one. A little variety with a franchise's games doesn't hurt.
