Goldfire? Is it not Goldbug?
I own the feature length cartoon from the late 1980's and I could have sworn that upon the repairing and rebuilding of Bumblebee during his re-introduction that Optimus names him "Goldbug" not "Goldfire"...

Does anyone else remember this? Or is it a glitch in my matrix? Id check the film myself but its a VHS and I do not have a VHS player lying around. Thanks buddies!

It was Goldbug. Only reason its Goldfire here is either due to licencing or a mistake.

They changed some character names in fall of cybertron. The dinobot slag was called slug (no doubt because slag is a cuss word in some countries). They also renamed two insecticons (alhtough they have their true names in this game).

I can only assume it has something to do with licensing.

Other iterations of transformers universes called him goldfire. Probably a licensing thing why they changed it in all honesty. http://www.transformers-universe.com/include.php?path=content/articles.php&contentid=2758 http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Goldfire
aight good to know, i never kept up with transformers after generation 1 so to me hearing anything other than Goldbug sounded strange. Thanks dudes! :ranger_assist::ranger_lead:
Actually- insecticon names were changed too. Skrapnel was Shrapnel originally.

It is a licensing thing in North America, however, they did make one reference to him being Goldbug in the game. If you go through the "prophecy" level his prophecy mentions Goldbug.

There are a variety of names Hasbro has changed for different reasons. The two main reasons are licensing and when it means something offensive outside the US. For instance, the reason they changed Slag to Slug, is because the word slag is british slang for sl ut.

They lost Hot Rod, to Hot Rod Magazine. They lost Trailbreaker at one point, but were able to get it back not long ago.

VW have some issue so obviously 'bug' is likened to the Beetle such as the 'love bug' movie. Its the same reason why Bumble Bee transforms to a generic small car and not a VW i believe.

If you play mission 2 or 3 (the one you first enter the ship and make your way to the plasma core) you will enter some kinde of library or archive, where an AI will foretell your future, depending on the Autobot you play, the voice lines change. If you play as Bumblebee (or Goldfire) it will recognize you as Bumblebee and tell something about you being first reborn as Goldbug and later as Goldfire.
I played that part only one time with Bumblebee and one time with Optimus, and the AI said different things, so I can't remember the exact wording (While playing as Optimus, it says something like, that Optimus will lead the Autobots to a victory against the Decepticons, but will be unable to be there in the end, probably a hint to the Transformers:Armada ending)
So I guess Goldfire as a further reincarnation of Goldbug, according to lore. But it is probably a licensing thing all along.

No. It's referencing Transformers: The Movie. Same with Wheeljack. It mentions him not having much time left, but his legacy will live on.
