They changed some character names in fall of cybertron. The dinobot slag was called slug (no doubt because slag is a cuss word in some countries). They also renamed two insecticons (alhtough they have their true names in this game).
I can only assume it has something to do with licensing.
It is a licensing thing in North America, however, they did make one reference to him being Goldbug in the game. If you go through the "prophecy" level his prophecy mentions Goldbug.
They lost Hot Rod, to Hot Rod Magazine. They lost Trailbreaker at one point, but were able to get it back not long ago.
I played that part only one time with Bumblebee and one time with Optimus, and the AI said different things, so I can't remember the exact wording (While playing as Optimus, it says something like, that Optimus will lead the Autobots to a victory against the Decepticons, but will be unable to be there in the end, probably a hint to the Transformers:Armada ending)
So I guess Goldfire as a further reincarnation of Goldbug, according to lore. But it is probably a licensing thing all along.
No. It's referencing Transformers: The Movie. Same with Wheeljack. It mentions him not having much time left, but his legacy will live on.
